Introduction of me, initial-V
I hail from an island in the Pacific called Guam which is the largest island in a chain of other islands called the Marianas Islands. The island of Guam is located 13°28'N Latitude and 144°47'E Longitude and is a three and a half hour flight from Manila, Philippines. I am a descendant of Filipino immigrants and was born and raised in Guam, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States of America and that basically makes me an American. As a citizen of the United States, there are a few exceptions that Guamanians cannot do compared to our mainland America counterparts. Those exceptions include not having the chance to vote in the electoral process of the United States and no voting power in Congress. Our shipping couriers are no different than the mainland United States and have the U.S. Postal Service for our everyday mail, Federal Express, DHL, and UPS. If you want to send me anything from mainland America, it won't cost an arm and a leg as Guam is considered domestic even though it has to cross thousands of miles to get here. :)
When people ask me what I do for a living I reply with, “A lot.” With perplexed and confused faces, I immediately try to explain what I mean. My line of work revolves around the IT field and deals with a lot of different interfaces revolving around specialized software, propriety hardware, and networking. That’s what I normally do Monday through Friday but that’s not all.
While attending college to pursue my career, I was a freelance writer and photographer for “The Daily” newspaper which provided me work experience and some pocket money. The only thing missing was a bite from a radioactive spider which gives me great power… and great responsibility. Photography stuck with me even after college as I expand to the different facets of photography which include studio portraits, various print media, and weddings.
Additionally, I was picked up by the only Filipino Radio Station on Guam to be a radio jockey on the weekends. Ironically enough I have the only radio show in the station that’s strictly English which actually works out because it sets me apart from everyone else. For fun, I enjoy driving cars on the track and on the roads. I’ve been racing as an amateur for about a decade now and frequent the local autocross racing events here on Guam. Within those 13 years, I was picked up, along with 3 other racers, to become professional drivers for a tour company. This company offered customers a change to ride along or drive a Ferrari F430, a Porsche 997 Turbo, or a Chevy Corvette either on the race track or cruising on the streets. The whole thing was short-lived but definitely an awesome experience. Who wouldn’t want to drive a supercar and get paid for it?
Aside from driving, I also enjoy playing video games on multiple platforms which include the Steam on PC, Sony PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. I used to game a lot but nowadays I have to pick and choose what games to play and when to play them. The medium has grown so much that it’s pretty challenging to keep up especially with my busy schedule.
I think that’s a good chunk of who I am. Hello Steemit!
You can call me “V.”
