Not just another writer

Hi Steemians! I’m Lacey.

I’m new to Steem and really excited to see where it goes! I look forward to meeting some of you and seeing some cool content.

So some light stuff about me… I’m a writer first and foremost, and I do two main things with that. I run the blog at WriterCulture.com, which is my side project that I need 700% more motivation for in order to make it a success. But feel free to check it out! I write about media from the perspective of a writer.

I’m also a Reputation Specialist at a cool company called BrandYourself. We do online reputation management, and honestly, I’m really happy I work there. I’m pretty passionate about helping people get their online lives together, so let me know if you need some guidance!

Now on to the more serious stuff. I’ve gone through a lot of shit in my life. I grew up in a split household, and my primary guardian from birth-15 was my mom, who likely has Borderline Personality Disorder. My entire childhood was her failed relationships, switching schools several times, and not actually hanging out with friends outside of school consistently until 5th grade. Definitely not the worst childhood in the world, but if you know someone with BPD, you know that being around them is entirely unpredictable.

As a result, I developed bulimia when I was 10. I was a pretty standard bulimic until I was 13-14, when I realized the permanent damage I did to my body and stopped purging. I also definitely have other mental (and physical tbh) disorders, and have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and depression, although that doesn’t sum up half of what I go through. I also have & have had several BFRBs, which I don’t even try to control anymore.

Anyway, I won’t go too in-depth for length’s sake, but suffice it to say I am proud of myself for just surviving at this point.

So, because of all the crazy shit I went through, I decided that I need to take it upon myself to educate myself and others on psychology. I don’t try to play doctor, but I think of myself more as an advocate. Most people I know have never heard of BPD or BFRBs until I told them about it. I think it’s just one step forward toward understanding each other.

Along similar lines of education/understanding, I’m also a big fan of the MBTI, cultures around the world, and individualism. I’ve existed in far too many group-think circles, and I like empowering others to be themselves. That being said, I’m not an SJW or anything. I’m not a big fan of discussing politics, but I thought that just needed to be said.

Well, that's me! I hope this wasn't too long or too personal, and sorry if it was. Anyway, you can probably expect to see me writing more about the topics I mentioned above. And with that, have a great day!

Welcome! I hope you find steemit a friendly and interesting place (I have been impressed by the people and content in my first week here)

Thank you! So far, it seems to be very welcoming. I'm quite excited to see what's next!

Welcome to Steemit! I really appreciate your honesty and strangely I quite enjoyed your shameless use of unexplained acronyms. I also love pop psychology! I'm much more into the enneagram than Myers Briggs,
are you familiar with it? I also love attachment theory, mindfulness, and I've been delving into the dark world of narcissism and abuse, which I realised is quite pervasive once you open to it. When it is talked about a surprising amount of people are quick to offer up their own stories which would otherwise have remained unshared (and so invisible to those who are not aware of it). Look forward to some of your future posts. Oh, btw, I might just point out one thing to you in case you weren't aware. Because Steemit is based on blockchain technology, the way I understand it is it is basically an open ledger, once a post is embedded in the block (I think the edit button disappears after the five day payout timeline) then you can no longer delete it and it is immortalised on the blockchain forever. It's just that you seemed poised to share some very intimate stuff, so it may be worth just considering if you have a strategy for maintaining your online privacy going into the future. For example I have a friend who wants to share a very personal journey through heroin addiction and homelessness and I've recommended her to set up her account anonymously (as she doesn't want her parents, or at least her father, to read it, and just to keep her options open for future employment). Anyway, just to make you aware!! Welcoooooooome! Kate

Thanks Kate!

I have heard of enneagram, although I'm much less familiar with it than with the MBTI. I'm a 4w5 (I think? Maybe a 4w3) and INFP. How about you?

But thanks for the info! I totally get what you're saying, and I'll make sure to watch how personal everything gets. I do hope to spread awareness and destigmatize mental health, so I hope I can at least accomplish that through my posts!

Yes, enneagram, Myers-Briggs, astrology... it's funny how they are all quite simialr in some ways - and people tend to choose one and really get into it.

Seeya round!

welcome to the community, I like forward to learning more about BPD with you.
ive followed an upvoted you

Thank you! It's a continual learning process for me too, so I look forward to learning together!

Great to have you here! I started using this site last summer. I generated enough steem to get a little Bitcoin and Litecoin.

Wow, that's awesome! I've been thinking about dabbling in some Litecoin.
