There are a few tips that I wish I had known early on.

  1. If you haven’t already please check out Steemit Etiquette Rules. It is very important to follow them because if you break them people may flag you and you will get a bad reputation which can lead to your replies and posts becoming invisible and no one will read them. At the best people will just ignore you and you won't get the attention you want.

  2. According to the rules a person whose post gets upvoted only gets 75% of the amount that their post is worth 7 days after they post it. 25% is split to pay everyone who votes for that post however, the amount is split depending on how high your vote is worth. If your vote is only worth $0.01 then you will get only the very tiniest part of that 25% even if 25% looks like a lot of money. For someone whose vote isn't worth much it isn't a very good way to make your wallet fat. Do it if you want but don't expect to get much from it.

  3. Find and reply to people whose posts interest you and the people who reply to their posts. Give a thoughtful reply that has something to do with the topic of the post. If you give a good reply :

    a. your reply might be upvoted and you get to keep all the money you earn from that upvote.

    b. the person who upvoted you may look at your blog site to see what posts you have made and may decide to upvote your posts. Eventually you can make many good friends who will like to visit you frequently.

This is the very best way to make money when you are first starting out. It adds up quickly.

  4. Always have a post or 2 that someone who looks at your site can see and upvote (is less than 7 days old). You don't want to disappoint people who will go away and not come back.

  5. You can make posts that are not all the same topic but mostly stick to similar subjects so that people who come to your blog and see a bunch of brainiac and other quizes and who like them will know that they can come back and find more like them. @papa-pepper and @vcelier are 2 good examples of how this is done but you should find bloggers who have similar interests as you do so they will find your blog interesting.

  6. Always be a good friend. If someone shows an interest in replying to something you've said always show interest back. Unless the person has left spam (see the etiquette site - #1 tip) try to reply back and show your appreciation.

  7. Don't waste your votes on posts that are equal to or more than 7 days old. You can't get even the little bit of reward that you are eligible for if the post has already paid out.

Finally a few sites that you might like to visit:

To make your posts look great, @themarkymark's formatting post will help you code for this version of markdown.

To see what actions are going on with your blog you can go to a curration site.

To find new posts of the people you have replied to in the past and who they are resteeming you want to look at your feed site every so often.

and finally... to see how close you are to leveling up your reputation check out this site.

Have fun and the best of luck!
