Hey! My name is Devon DB, I am 26 years old and from New Jersey. I am an independent writer and researcher that's has been writing since 2011. Due to a friend of mine, @sarahabed, I decided to join the Steemit community.

Currently, I am the Politics/Government Department Chair of The Hampton Institute, a working class think tank. I also do a podcast for them called A Different Lens, where I [attempt] to do a bi monthly show discussing politics.

I have been published online and cross posted in places such as Global Research where I got my start into writing, Foreign Policy Journal, AH Tribune, and Occupy.com. In 2014 I was published in the academic journal QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking and came out with an e-book in 2017.

However, mentioning Global Research, I think it would be an appropriate time to discuss how I decided to become involved in writing and researching politics. From around 15 or 16 I didn't have too many friends and so I began to read.... like a lot. I read a number of books such as House of War by James Carroll, The Shaping of Black America by Lerone Bennett Jr., War Against The Panthers: A Study of Repression in America by Huey P. Newton, and How To Make War: A Comprehensive Guide to Modern Warfare by James F. Dunnigan, just to name a few. I also watched CNN as my 16 year old self had the thought that they were the least biased of the three major news networks (Thank God I've seen through all that mess!). It was also around this time that I found the website Global Research and began to read articles from there.

While I had an interest in politics, I never really saw myself writing or doing much of anything with that knowledge. That all changed the fall of 2010 when I interviewed Global Research founder Michel Chossudovsky about Global Research and how it started. In the interview, I remember him saying that he didn't care about the political angle a person was coming from, as long as they had good writing. That got me to thinking and so I wrote an article, edited it with the help of some friends, and submitted it. To my surprise, it was published and from then on I kept writing and learning.

So, I hope that you all will go in and learn with me. By no means am I an expert on things, I just have something of a knack for researching and then attempting to put my research into a digestible format.
