My first experience with SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hi all,

My name is Alex but people call me Viking in real life (because im big, tall and have a beard). I live in london and work in the security sector but have recently decided to work less hours in favour of a some projects I am working on including one of my major hobbies, which is mining, trading and buying cryptocurrency. I will be very active on Steemit, writing articles several times a week on all things crypto (including mining, cloud mining, trading, investing, live updates and more as well as general useful apps and services.

I currently only have a couple mining rigs mining ethereum and burst, however I intend on purchasing several more and renting an office to work out of.

Please do give me give me a follow if you want to see updates on that project as well as regular updates on various crypto currencies.

I am extremely pleased to be part of Steemit and hope to make some friends here!

I just headed down this rabbit hole myself @cryptoviking! The contract was first, followed by building my first rig, and now I'm on to getting a grasp of all of the different currencies.

Yeah I hear that, I have been messing around with crypto for about a year now but recently decided enough is enough. I wanted to get serious and start a small to mid sized mining farm.

I'm keeping my eyes out for newer tokens. I'm starting to doubt the effectiveness of mining for Ethereum at the current difficulty levels. I know this is a long term investment type thing and I need a token I can get volumes of vs 1 or 2 a week. How are you solving the current GPU shortage issue? I'm trying to build a second rig and everywhere I look they are sold out of cards.

yeah that one is a tough one. Ethereum is my favourite coin to farm, but it is true that the difficulty is making it less appealing. I believe in the coin's future so I will continue mining it, however if something comes out that is wildly outperforming eth then of course I will switch. If you are not aware of coinwarz, I would recommend you look there as they list the most cost effective currencies to mine. As for GPUs, I don't know where you are based, but in the UK i am still finding RX 4XX and 5XX cards.

We are sold out in the US and I am apt to not pay your VAT ;-)

Can't blame you there, VAT + shipping costs + import tax would destroy your ROI time. This might be an obvious one, but have you checked ebay? you might be able to find a few second hand RX470s at bargain prices from an upgrading gamer.

Thanks @cryptoviking! I will keep looking. I am more interested in seeing if one of these rigs can be transitioned into a DCP authoring system. Digital Cinema Package is the new gold standard for projection and it requires a ton of rendering power to create. I think once the mining is pointless I will retool the business model for doing that.

I am 50 years old and am very curious about mining. Can you write more for newbies?

I absolutely can! I will write a few articles in the coming few days about choosing a coin to mine, choosing equipment, configuring the software. I will do this for all operating systems.

That is fantastic. Thank you, I look forward to it.

I'll try to put a post together. Do you have anything specific about mining that you have questions on? Are you building a rig?

I am a complete beginner. Just reading on it now. If you were explaining it to a child would probably be as helpful to me and others.

I don't have any children and posts seem better with pictures right? @annettesirmans I'll try to do one as though I'm explaining it to my cat. Think that'll work?
