Tiene 23 años y ya lo han detenido la policía, la guardia y hasta los servicios de inteligencia. Trepado sin autorización sobre las cimas de concreto, este caraqueño se considera una suerte de Phillippe Petit de Petare.

"Muchacho, ¿tú eres loco?". La expresión la conoce bien y la ha escuchado desde hace cuatro años, cuando empezó a practicar skywalking. Su nombre es Carlos Rengifo y tiene 23 años.

Carlos es conocido como el primer venezolano y unos de los pocos en américa latina que practica una disciplina que consiste en fotografiarse en las cornisas de los edificios -haciendo acrobacias o no- sin ningún tipo de protección. La peligrosa tendencia que arrancó en Rusia lo cautivó y desde entonces le obsesiona emular las aventuras de Oleg Sherstyachenko, pero con la medalaganaria arquitectura de la capital como telón de fondo.

Practica varias horas por la noche en su casa, en Caucagüita, una zona aledaña a la carretera Petare-Guarenas. Estudió fotografía y computación pero no pudo terminar ninguna carrera por falta de dinero, así que por ahora trabaja como limpiavidrios de edificios en Caracas: "Pero es ocasional, me gusta". Claro, no sufre de vértigo.

Lo primero que tiene claro es que no puede pedir permiso para practicar su pasión. Ni siquiera en su trabajo formal se atreve a solicitarle un "chance" al supervisor para fotografiarse en el lugar porque sabe que la respuesta será negativa: "Imagínate, si me pasa algo, a quien le llaman la atención es a él".

Pero eso no le impide aventurarse a otros espacios en la ciudad. Hace apenas un mes estuvo en una de las torres de Parque Central, un emblemático edificio de 256 metros de altura que figura entre los más altos de Caracas. La travesura le salió cara.

Después de subir sin permiso hasta el piso 60 de la torre este de Parque Central, un grupo de oficiales del Servicios Bolivariano de Inteligencia (Sebin) llegó para arrestarlo a él y a los fotógrafos que lo acompañaban: "Ellos exageraron un poco porque decían que éramos terroristas. Nos trataron como unos delincuentes".

"He recibido demasiadas críticas por lo que hago, demasiados insultos, demasiadas amenazas. La gente se asusta porque es algo nuevo, pues. Creen que soy un loco que sólo está tratando de llamar la atención o que me quiero suicidar. Me da mucha rabia y por eso no he recibido ningún apoyo para representar a mi país Venezuela a través de la crisis que presenta".
