¿What is Calabozo Criollo?

Calabozo Criollo it´s a national community that promotes the culture of board games, role-playing games and wargames, its essential pillars since 2004; beyond being a club or group, it is a meeting point for all players in Venezuela and even from the rest of the world.

It emerged facing the challenge of many Venezuelans saying "I like such a game” “I saw it in Paris or New York in a store” “in London there is a community that plays that” “ I do not think it never see that game in Venezuela” “I wish there were those games in Venezuela " so we born and work with the intention of unifying the players of Venezuela and promoting that #WeDoPlay

Initially it was with role-playing games, where Calabozo Criollo participated in different events around the country, including Caracas, Miranda, Carabobo, Lara, even Zulia; participating in tournaments, meetings and roleplaying encounters from different communities; testing the different systems amongclassic Dungeons and Dragons, Vampire, Star Wars rpg, Fate, Call of Cthulhu to the more modern modiphius games such as Infinity Rpg and Conan.

At the same time it was with the wargames, having a large league of Star Wars Minis of wizards of the coast back in 2004, D & D miniatures also in 2004 played a lot in the store Magic Sur (one of the geek strongholds in Venezuela where today is still playing Magic the gathering) and soon fell into gamesworkshop warhammer fantasy, warhammer 40k with massive tournaments along with the Adeptus Imprentus and later around 2009 with other classic and new skirmish wargames from Warmachine / Hordes from privateerpress, Infinity from Corvus Belli, Malifaux from Wyrd games, Bloodbowl, Mordheim, Dreddball and many others.

The fever of tabletopgaming was rising with the emergence of modern board games and the golden age of the games, which went far beyond monopoly and chess, starting with games like settlers of catan and betrayal in the House of the Hill, They marked a startup that was followed by many fantasy flight games and Rio Grande games, reaching up to modern Eurogames like Agricola, foodchain magnate, etc, games that went from being casual fillers to being full afternoons of gameplay to properly boardgames gamedays. In principle driven by the Asociacion Caraqueña de juegos de mesa, later by Dragon Games store and then by the Ludoteca de Parque Caballito (nowadays in the lido center) since 2013 every Friday has become a space of constant play actually counting on a community of 25 players on average that Friday to Friday meet to share a playful time.

Calabozo Criollo has kept promoting the game culture and has been invited for years by the geek conventions of the country, where we have brought games and models, from Avalancha 2006-2013, Caracas Fan Fest 2012, Convention A / X 2014, Geekopolis 2015, Convention Matsuri 2015-2016, Convention Otaku Brotherhood 2018, Valencia Comic With 2016 to the longest and best known Caracas Comic With 2010-2018, where Calabozo Criollo had an increasing participation taking what are our pillars by demonstrating the games totally free to the attending public looking for expand the gaming culture, with games even in pre-order or sent as testing by the producer companies that support our gaming. We also made several events on our own with the participation of several groups such as Venezuela Tabletop, Busca Tu Espacio , Banco del libro, Poblacion Mutante, Expo Modelismo Avila, British Council, and several events we have done speeching and teaching of the analogic gaming world.

We have attended world game conventions such Gen Con and kept in touch, we even had our own GENCAN'T the convention of those who couldnt go to Gen Con (The great convention of the world about games)

Calabozo Criollo has hosted and sponsored Official organized game of Star Wars Miniatures, D & D Miniatures, D & D Encounters, Infinity the game with the Warcors, the Pressganger program of Privateerpress for Warmachine and Hordes, Henchman of Malifaux, Rogue Trader of Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar, Modiphius SilverShields of the role-playing game Modiphius, among others.

We have also held the game developer community, participating in table games creators events, supporting initiatives such as stratgol, gem thieves, mekawing, heroes of uppland, torre de magos, Kingdom Duel, the infiltrated, even the role play apocalyptic fantasy; 2040.

Calabozo Criollo has traveled to share with gaming communities throughout the country, we have been in warhammer 40k tournaments at Lecherias, Anzoategui state, to the east of the country, also shared with the people of Puerto Ordaz in Bolívar state, we have visited the gaming community in San Cristobal, Táchira state, which has an excellent TCGstore store, attended game events in Barquisimeto by the City of Flame and BQTOgames, played with the gaming communities of Aragua, Mérida, Vargas and Miranda Highs, as well as counted on the support of Estadio Miniaturas Wargames of Maracay, Dado Borracho from Miranda and the Calabozo de la Marmota of Valencia.

As you can see Calabozo Criollo it´s in the whole country and with the purpose of promoting tabletop gaming, making you know as a player that you are not alone and in despite of the difficulties that the country may have, we could play together. Even people in the diaspora (exodus) has made many of our players go to other latitudes of the world and share experiences and contacts with people from other countries, promoting that in Venezuela WE DO PLAY!
