¡ CURIOSITY OF THIS FAMOUS CURRENCY !steemCreated with Sketch.

Greetings beloved steemit community, this time I wanted to share with you all something that I find very interesting and at the same time something curious, because I am still surprised when I met people from my country who, due to ignorance, believed that this currency so famous and loved by Venezuelans was of Venezuelan origin, because not my friends, it is not like that, this currency is not Venezuelan.

Today, still many Venezuelans, due to their ignorance, believe that the Morocota is a Venezuelan currency; but is not! The name "Morocota" was given in Venezuela to the US $ 20 Gold coins of the United States of America, which circulated freely in Venezuela during much of the 19th century.

Dissolved in 1830 the Republic of Colombia (Gran Colombia), the Republic of Venezuela had no chance to have its own money. The shortage of currency was solved with the introduction of foreign currencies in gold and silver. During this period gold and silver coins from several countries circulated legally, being the most popular of all for its high purchasing power the gold coin of 20 US dollars.

According to Julio Calcaño in his work El castellano en Venezuela, "This name was given to the American ounce by General José Tadeo Monagas, when that currency was first received in Caracas", supposedly because of the resemblance of the coin to the morocoto fish (also known as white cachama).
