Hello Steemions I'm going on an adventure!
My name is Brandon and I'm very excited to begin my adventure here on Steemit! I recently came across a number of articles on Steemit and became curious about the platform. After researching a little more I thought "What a great idea!" So here I am, jumping into this young social network and I'm very excited to grow and learn with this community. Along the way, I hope that my life experiences will be beneficial to you.
A little about me:
- I'm married to an incredible wife and have two awesome dogs (Nemo and Dory)!
- I've been a software engineer and engineering manager for about 14 years.
- Before that I was a registered nurse for almost 10 years (yes there's a career transition story there).
- I recently took a break from the workforce to try a few new things like building passive income, learning more about machine learning and game development.
- I started a small company to do the above.
- I published a small but fun little game on Steam.
- I once had a small photography business shooting kids sports, senior pictures, and business events.
- I love noodling around with tech - like building 3d printers, playing with remote control toys, and writing simple game programs.
- When I'm not playing with new techy stuff I've been getting more involved with subsistence gardening (it's not really big enough to be a farm) and cooking.
- I'm attempting to write a science fiction novel.

How will I contribute?
At the end of the day, I want to encourage people to grow, learn and try new things. So many people get stuck in the rat-race of life and feel beaten, defeated, oppressed, and have a hard time seeing a way out. If something I share helps or encourages someone to try new things, explore and enjoy life or better themselves, that will bring me tremendous joy and I will feel like this was a success. I thought I might put some how-to tutorials on different programming topics. My wife and I are also big proponents of debt-free lifestyle (which has allowed me to take on adventures like you see above), so I'm hoping I can encourage and help others to reach their financial goals. We'll see - I'm not 100% sure, and figured I'll throw some stuff out here and see how people feel about it.
