To me, Steemit represents a new effort to reach people and bring them the benefit of blockchain technology. As i understand it, Steemit has been designed to incentivize the production and curation of 'quality' material with an economic model that enables the use of the platform for all manner of communities. It's all about maximizing the value of connection in a way that can empower anyone, anywhere. And it's about the freedom of expression, creativity and education. This platform could be a significant stepping stone towards a civilized society. Boy, that would be nice.
