Why I joined Steemit: Censorship Vs The Blockchain

The advent of the internet saw the dawn of an epoch capable of integrating with our everyday lives. For the first time in history, the gap between man and technology had been bridged and a more intimate relationship established. So significant in fact, was the discovery of the internet, that it led to the continued urbanization of the globe to the point where the World Wide Web became a basic human need much like food and water. The very fabric of human kind is naturally to take for granted much of the luxuries enjoyed from day to day, so it is only natural to underestimate the role of the internet in our lives. However, in a compromised power grid situation, it would not take long to realize our almost absolute dependence on the web.

The internet at its very core is a product of capitalism making it an amoral, or morally neutral environment. All information is welcome, or at least that seemed to be the case until recently. Though censorship has been a perpetual player in the history of mankind, the arbiters, at the very least, have largely hidden their faces behind the guise of politics. Surely one can appreciate the appearance of censorship from behind the scenes with the recent declaration by Googles' CEO Sundar Pichai to eliminate "fake news." And that's how it works, misdirection! All it take is a straw man upon whom to lay the blame and watch your rights take off for the sky. This is precisely the reason I joined Steemit. The Blockchain is perhaps the greatest invention since the internet simply because it eliminates the potential for both the straw man and the arbiter. Proposing a decentralized system in which the people and not the ruling class have the power is centuries overdue and it has now arrived at our doorsteps. We should fight to protect it with our very lives indeed!internet.jpg

I came to Steemit because Reddit went full 1984.
Great post, followed.

I just said this to someone else but cencorship resistance of the blockchain is one of the biggest reasons that steemit HAS to both exist and succeed. The world is in desperate need of a technology like this right now.

Welcome to Steemit!

Welcome to Steemit! Did I miss your name? Anyway, I see you have quite a lot of background knowledge with technology and the internet. I'd be interested to read future content from you. Keep pushing forward.
