THE REASON I JOINED STEEMIT WAS TO ADD VALUE...HERE IT IS
Here's some value I think I can add. Im just a 37 year old guy that works a fast food job. No college education (although I am looking into going) for now but i find myself to be in a pretty good spot and i'd like to share a few ideas and apps that helped me get here.
First bit of advice I got was to live below your means (which im sure most of you have heard at some point or another in your life). I'll admit i tend to take this one a little too far. Im the kind of guy who just got paid and have no upcoming bills but will eat ramen noodles for dinner. Sounds extreme but this mindset did help me to get where i am today. Pay yourself first!!! This one i feel like gets lost in translation with the younger generation today. Pay yourself means when you get paid put a certain amount in savings for yourself. It doesn't mean go buy the newest pair of yeezy's! Too many times i see kids at work who just got paid and have a brand new outfit but can't pay their cell phone bill. This is called TOXIC spending and will lead to bad debt.
Luckily for us we now have places like this to find knowledge and great apps to help up along the way! The first app i started to use in my journey was acorns. If your not familiar with what acorns is let me shed some light. Acorns is an investing app that links to your checking account. When you swipe your credit card it rounds up to the nearest dollar putting that extra bit of change away. When your extra change reaches $5 it invests it into the broad market ie: vanguard funds. So far i have made over $6,000 in total gains in a few years. Not bad for an app that runs in the background and i barely notice. If your a new investor or you have a hard time saving money i'd highly recommend giving it a shot!
Next app is Qapital. Qapital is an app that helps people save money by setting goals. For example one of my goals is the 52 week money challenge goal. How it works is the first week of the year you put away $1, second week of the year $2 third week $3 so now you have saved $6 in 3 weeks. Keep this up over the course of a year and it will help you save over $1,300. Qapital also has whats called if this then that rules. For another example...i have this one set up to where when my favorite sports team plays (Tennessee Titans) it'll automatically set aside $10. Not that much but this all adds up. I also have it set to save 10% of every deposit over $500 into my account as a emergency fund or security blanket.
I do have several other apps that I use to help me along my way but I don't want this to get to lengthy of a read and I feel like I need to save some content for later posts as well. As I stated before thankfully we are in a day & age where we have libraries at our fingertips and a wealth of knowledge to access. I hope you gained a little bit of helpful knowledge from my post! If you did give it an upvote and make sure to follow me for more content! God bless you guys and I hope you have a great day!!
Sincerely, Trey (acornsportfolio)
welcome to Steemit ☺️ looking forward to seeing your creativity. have fun!
Thanks!!!
Really good article for people who wants to save some money and get started.
However, I do not agree on the eating noodles to save money part :D Food is importent and thats one area where I dont save money. But I dont go out eating either. I just buy good quality food and making it at house :D
I can definitely get on board with that. like I said I tend to be really Frugal when it comes to money and eating out. I do think going grocery shopping and eating at the house is a better way to go!
Btw. I never heard about Qapital. But the weekly saving strategy sounds quite interesting and I am going to try it out. Even tho I am already saving 185$ ever month automaticly xD And transfering what ever I have left at the end of the month when I get my paycheck :D
