Ora History-Sabongidda-Ora 1

Image

My hometown, Evbiobe is now popularly called Sabongidda Ora.The Oras are people known for their good sense of hospitality as strangers find home in her-this is the main reason for the name Sabongidda-Ora. The average Ora man's sense of hospitality is exemplary and also visible. It is often the Oras harbour more strangers in Edo state than any other community.

Ora born Airien Ekpen had six sons each of them grew up and settled as farmers and then created seperate clans BUT were always United as brother. Today these sons as now communities with their eldest being Ohia. Ohia is the oldest of Ora' s sons but it is the least populated. Ora's sons are Ohia, Ovbiokhuarin, Evbiobe (Sabongidda-Ora), Uhomora, Oke (Both old and new) and Eme-Ora. Of all these, Ohia is the highest ranking but the one with the least population.

Sabongidda-Ora is the third in order of seniority and Eme-Ora is the Youngest. The Hausa settlers came and found a Home in Evbiobe and since they couldnt pronounce Evbiobe, they called it Sabongidda- meaning New Abode or New Home. This is largely due to the fact that Evbiobe is a hospitable clan. The name has since stayed and everyone now refers to the town as a New Abode or New Home or New Town. Now Sabongidda Ora has in her as children also the Hausas and other settlers who found a Home in Evbiobe. Many of them have been made chiefs and local rulers.

Sabongidda Ora is indeed a Home and it is my hometown.
