My First Legend: GrandPA!
Hello fellow Steemians, it's me again. Since I've talk about my country, let's talk about my family today!
Malaysian's Chinese is a interesting group of people here in Malaysia: We have our ancestry that could be traced back to 18th century China, or even further into ancient times; We have no problem read or writes in Chinese, and we speak Mandarin, plus one or two dialects in daily our conversation; We practices Chinese traditions, such as celebrating Lunar New Year; We have our Chinese name, that technically the Malaysia government do not recognize.
Fellow Steemian, meet my great grand-father.
He is among the first generation of Chinese immigrants flocking South East Asia during the early of 1900s. According to my dad, he is a self taught mechanic and handyman, he amazes his employees with his skills and how to knowledge even tho he is not exposed to such machinery before.
He once had a family back in China, but due to difficult circumstances, all contact was lost due to ravaging civil war and chaos back in the 1930s. After several failed attempts, he then decided to be remained at Malaysia, having a new family here.
My grandfather was born here in Malaysia in 1941, even tho his nationality is not as definitive as one imagined, due to the complicated background during the independence era of Malaysia.
However, great grandpa, grandpa and granduncles was dedicated to feed the whole family, even with just some "Red I/C" (aka permanent residence identification).
After years of hard-work, they finally able to purchase some land in Sungai Buloh, a small town some 30km away from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Part of the land was used as farming land, while a small plot of it become the residence of the family.
According to my dad Rumor has it that my grandpa is a very strict person. He seldom smile, even when taking pictures. However, Grandpa do have some cool moments, that he bought a Emerald colored Mercedes Benz, when most people will settle with silver or white.
My grandpa passed away when I was 9. It's sad that I'll never get to know more about his legends. Yet, I know that grandpa is alway here in my heart. Love ya grandpa!
