I am Greta and I am a Videographer!
I noticed that some 'Introduce Myself' posts are usually copied from a person's website or any other medium they have a biography written for. I object to this! Steemit, firstly, is NOT a recruitment agency. And people here have different interests to the ones from Tinder. So how this post is going to be any different to them? Well, it will sound super bad, but this post is gonna be an honest one! As I have a feeling that this is not a place where people make fun of each other in a mean manner, I feel that I can talk about things which I care about without feeling pressured or isolated.
Therefore...
Hi, my name is Greta. I am a videographer, who lives and works in UK. I was born in Lithuania, went to music school, played piano and conducted a choir. I composed songs and sang them in national competitions (often lost). I loved to draw and to make beats. :-)
Once graduated, I moved to UK to study Music Technology. I graduated as the best student in the entire media department which I am quite proud of (is it ok to be proud of yourself nowadays?). Then, I got a job as a technician at the University and started my Masters degree. It sucked, so I quit. Now I am transferring into a different job at a digital media agency where I'm gonna be an editor, camera op and production assistant. I can't wait really, this is a big thing for me as again, all my life was dedicated to being good at doing music. Fingers crossed!
But this summary doesn't really say much about me, right? It gives some context about where I get money for food from, but what describes a person? Or what questions do I ask a person who I just have met? Let's make a top 5 questions list!
- What are your three favourite movies? Interstellar, 2001: A Space Oddysey, The Act of Killing, Fight Club, ExMachina.
- Any hobbies? Reading, remixing, gardening.
- What's your dream? To become the best camera operator and editor, afford the food I love and to be happy!:)
- Dream travel destination? Brazil.
- Favourite music genre? Surely Trip-Hop.
So I guess, I am a woman, who loves sci-fi and documentaries. I love series such as Making a Murderer as well (obsessed with detectives!). I enjoy literature, mostly novels, Sci-Fi please!!! I still do some music, but not 100% original stuff, remixes mostly. And because when I was little my grandma took me to the garden to pick some weeds, I got used to plants and now love to take care of them myself.
I am not sure if I am funny or entertaining, but I do have friends. :-) It probably means I am an OK person.
I hope that me being here is going to benefit Steemit community somehow. I am not even sure if anyone cares about videography and girls doing videos :-) (not sure what your thoughts are here!).
I love filming and I know I am not the best yet. There are many things which I would like to write about during my journey to the top and I hope you'll be with me when it happens!
All the best,
Greta
P.S. I am certain everybody has a different top questions list, so if you have better/more creative ideas, let me know, maybe it will help someone to go through an awkward silence with someone super attractive! :-)
Yes it is okay to be proud of yourself nowadays. I am also a woman who likes sci-fi. I just watched Stranger Things on Nextflix, though it's a bit more horror than sci-fi I suppose. I think videography should do very well on Steemit. You could even start by making this post into a video and posting it, too. Then we could hear some of your music, even. You're lucky to have proficiency in so many media!
Hi! Regarding being proud, sometimes i feel that people think that I am bragging or am arrogant if I tell what I have achieved and am happy about. I expect people to tell the best about them too! :-) Thanks for the suggestion to make a video - I didn't think about it, perhaps I really should! haha, that's a big task for me now :-D
I just finished watching Narcos and Mr Robot, so I'll take a look at Stranger Things!
And finally, thanks for making a comment, it is really good to know someone actually reads posts. :-)
It's true that people can be insecure when hearing others speak confidently about themselves. Of course there's nothing wrong with being proud and kind. :) I bet your confidence will be a good thing here.
I'll be curious to see whatever videography and music you decide to share. Posting is still kindof scary for me. :)
Thanks for the recommendations! I think I'll watch Season 2 of Narcos next. My brother says it stays good and grows naturally. Mr Robot Season 2 is a treat I'm saving up. I hope you like Stranger Things if you check it out. If you know a lot of '80s movies it's even better, I think.
Thanks for responding to my comment! People do read posts, but I think there'a lot of skimming. I do it too, sometimes. You'll develop a following quickly here if you read deeply and try to connect with people doing cool things. At least I have. I've not posted much, but have spent this last week trying to get to know people. It can get frustrating to feel people don't care. But then, I think most people feel that way!
I'm curious about what I will decide to share too, to be honest. :-D It's difficult to filter out what I think is not worth sharing, again, it's like quality-checking yourself, therefore, difficult. Well, I am inspired by all the things people already wrote about, you should write more too! There aren't many haters here so don't be scared! :-) I have a tattoo behind my ear which says 'ad astra'. It means 'to the stars' from Latin. The entire phrase, however, is 'per aspera ad astra' meaning 'through the obstacles to the stars'. I decided to have the second part only written cause I thought I am an obstacle myself. Something to overcome, I guess.
Let me know what you think of Narcos S02, some of my friends said it was forced, but I don't agree. Do you like 80s movies? I seem to know lots of movies from 60s and then 90s onwards but not 70-80s - don't know where that gap came from! :-D
And I'm glad you replied to me too, which is really nice as I expect the worst from people sometimes! haha!
Oh yeah, I always expect the worst from people, ha! You're really nice though and Steemit is a bit of a safe haven, I think. What a great tattoo! I especially love the way you abbreviated it and made it your own. I certainly feel that I am the only thing to overcome in my life. And Steemit is actually helping a lot. I used to write only letters to friends and crazy essays. Now, I'm learning to turn the crazy essays into many, much simpler clear essays and to treat the comments as letters.
Strange Things is kind of like if Stephen King wrote E.T. There are a whole lot of subtle references in it to various 80's movies. I think part of the fun is noticing that. The choice of Winona Ryder, though she does a great job, is partly a reference to her as an icon. That kind of thing. You'll either be hooked right away or not, as the first episode is very indicative of what the rest of the show will be.
I'll remember what you said about there being not many haters here. It's true! Thanks for cheering me up. :)
Be careful of earnest. His reputation is this low for a good reason (rape threats mostly). Please refrain from interacting with him. He moves from target to another. Don't be his next.
Just a quick reply - I started watching Stranger Things and omg it's scary and amazing!!!
beanz, thank you :-)
Welcome Greta, I too am a woman, who loves sci-fi and documentaries.
We should make a club of sci-fi lovers :-D It is usually imagined as a very male thing but I think it's an old-fashioned stereotype. Have YOU seen Stranger Things?
Of course I've SEEN Stranger Things!!! :) I was raised with Battlestar Galactica, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark and Carl Sagan. I am currently eagerly awaiting for Westworld. #GeeksRock
@jamielefay, am I remembering right that you read George R.R. Martin? I'm really hoping for some ASOIAF discussion on Steemit. It's so cool to be having a conversation with multiple people. I'm totally in love with @iamgreta's suggestion of a sci-fi club. (So stoked you're watching Stranger Things!) Woo-hoo!
Yes, I love George and I'm very keen to contribute to a sci-fi club as it is a topic that I love. It will be fun! J http://makeitstranger.com/steemit-scifi
jamielefay, I just favourited that blog called Typography of 'Stranger Things' I found on that website, so cool, thanks for sharing! And we should definitely push this club forward, as there are plenty hidden gems I've never heard about and there are some I'd like to share as well! How can we do that? I am almost aware of some chat where everyone is talking to each other? As a newbie I have no idea what that is.
AHA! There is a Sci-fi channel on chat. That's where to go. It looks like people are posting regularly, too. It looks people post links of their articles, but I imagine discussion of any topic would be welcome. I'll look into it further. I believe it's easy to start a new channel, too, so if we wanted to make a special group to meet up at certain times or something like that, I bet it would be very easy.
Making a murderer... !! Awesome...
And this sentence was hilarious - "I am not sure if I am funny or entertaining, but I do have friends. :-) It probably means I am an OK person."
hahaha..
Nice to meet you.. :)
Haha, I'm glad you liked it :-) I hope I will not disappoint in the future. Have a lovely day and nice to meet you too!
you're a smart cookie,
Brazil is right next to Argentina, which is where Im from,
Brazil is cool too :)
did you see the documentary The Silk Road by the BBC?
Dont listen to beanz she's a radical "feminist"
Stranger things is awesome!!! About a month ago I was out of town at a friends house and he has a sensor light that gets brighter the closer you get to it. I thought it was my brother trying to talk to me for a minute until i figured it out lol
LOL! That's hilarious! Would be a great prank for this Halloween!
