My Intro… Who, What, Where, Why, When (and How)?

in #introduce8 years ago (edited)

How did I get here?

Earlier today I had a lengthy chat with my brother @nanzo-scoop, who’s been hunting me down for the past couple days to tell me about Steemit: ‘You’ve got to get on it,’ he insists. And after an hour-long conversation, I understand why.
I could describe myself in may ways, but essentially I’m a content creator; and this is a place to upload content - and apparently get paid somewhere down the line for doing so.

Yes, sharing good content is close to my heart but I can’t lie, the latter did intrigue me. So here goes…

Who am I?

Akosua Annobil. I’ve been a journalist, media entrepreneur, digital content producer and PR professional for over 15 years (I started young). I’ve so far had a colourful career including work with mainstream print, broadcasting, and TV networks, running a specialist PR company, developing youth media projects, organising celebrity launch parties blah blah… (http://akosuaannobil.com/about-me/)

More recently, I created AB2020 - a communications and media company for savvy investors, entrepreneurs and businesses seeking partnerships and insights into the economic development of Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa.

As a Britain-born Londoner of Ghanaian heritage, I’m passionate about building a bridge between the UK and Africa (mainly through business and entrepreneurship), and dispelling many of the myths believed in the West about the continent… But that’s another post!

AB2020 produces a newsletter which is published via our mailing list, social media network and website AfricaBusiness2020.com. It includes industry insights, commentary, events and untold stories around Africa’s exciting growth as an emerging market in the lead up to 2020.

Offline, we connect individual and institutional investors to business opportunities in Ghana (with a view to expand in to other territories). And globally, we partner and work with leading events linked to Africa’s investment and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

In addition, I’m a steering group member of TLA Africa, which is part of the Tech London Advocates (worth a Google search for any ‘techies’ out there). TLA Africa is a network of individuals and organisations working together to develop stronger links between the tech ecosystems in London and key African markets.

Why am I here (besides the potential money bit)?

In a nutshell, we produce lots of content (I also update my personal blog when I get the time). Having taken a look around this website it seems there’s not much talk about Africa here so far, so it’s a niche I’d be happy to fill. I also have a soft spot for courageous entrepreneurs, so am happy to be contributing to an early stage start-up.

Lastly, my brother was also the first person to tell me about investing in BitCoin, which was alien to me at the time (so along ago I can’t remember when it was, and to be honest I wasn’t paying much attention). And look how mainstream that’s become.

Not missing the boat this time (I hope). Good luck to us all!

Welcome! Amazing to see so many intrresting people joining the platform!

Thank you! It's so friendly too, which is welcoming.

Thank you! It's so friendly too, which is welcoming.

I'm looking forward to reading what you write or cross post here! Really fun bio! I love to hear about what life is like around the world. I've never been to Africa. I've only met people from Uganda and Nigeria. What is something you would say is unique to Ghana compared to Africa and/or the rest of the world? Anything at all that comes to mind

Welcome! Great to have you on board! Look forward to reading more about the tech ecosystem in London & Africa. (Nice job recruiting @nanzo-scoop!)

Cheers ; ) Look forward to sharing!

Well done Kos.. you've finally jumped on board the Steem train! I'm sure everyone here is going to love what you bring :)

I have indeed! Very friendly platform too.

It would be very interesting to see the ratio of men / women on Steem relative to other crypto platforms.

Someone should post about Steemit on DailyKos. A lot of people seem to post on that site and I wonder what would happen? It's a very liberal website too and liberal websites seem to not even like Bitcoin so I wonder how they'd react to this?

Rare but I think I just experienced a first case of lag.

Are you sure you are not a model?

100% sure ; )

Awesome, AB2020 sounds very interesting, will check it out and looking forward to your posts.
