Humankind's Continuing Struggle (IV:1)
IV:1: Humankind has struggled since its emergence as a species on Earth. The initial struggle was simple survival and endurance against nature. The greater struggle, however, was the struggle to become civilized as a species, a struggle that humankind has still not fully overcome. Violence, intolerance, greed, neglect—these are not characteristics of a civilized society. If and when humankind does overcome this suicidal struggle against itself, it may be ready to proceed as a species and earn the respect of others in the Universal community. Until then, it remains perplexing to outside observers as to why an intelligent species with such great potential continues to choke on its own ignorance.
