Software applications that runs automated tasks (Scripts)over the internet i.e social media and search engines are referred to as Web Bots. Also called internet BOTs, WWW Robots or BOTs simply. Mostly, they are developed to carry out tasks for humans on the web.

Email address scanning.
Automated upvoting.
Locating and linking other websites.
WEB CONTENT INDEXING

One of the tools to achieve this is (Global Reporting Initiative) GRI's content index tool. This is done by generating customized templates; the option mostly preferable to you plus your chosen materials.
EMAIL ADDRESS SCANNING
This is done to harvest selected email addresses as recipients for generic messages.
AUTOMATED UPVOTING
This BOTs can be engineered to check and verify materials (posts, links, informations) on your behalf online and like or dislike them.
LOCATING AND LINKING OTHER WEBSITES
Some of the web robots can easily locate another site sharing the same information or details with another one. They decoded such messages and can trace it back to the original source.
This ROBOTs can be manually override, but with some expertise involved. so it is no magic when BOTs upvote, downvote and flag on Steemit!
