Internationl Day of the Girl Child 11 October

Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the girl. The day aims to highlight the adress the needs and the challanges girl face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Background -
Discrimination and violence against girls and violations of their human rights still happen. The UN felt a need to raise awarness of the challanges that million of girls face everyday. In dec 2011 the UN declared that it would annually obearve the International Day of the girl child, staring from Oct 11 , 2012.
