Intel is planning to launch smart glasses this year

Intel is planning to launch smart glasses by selling a majority stake in an augmented reality spinoff company. As a news report from Bloomberg Technology, new company name will probably be Vaunt and the name of consumer smart glasses can be Superlite.

In few details available about new project, the company is planning to use a laser projector to display information in the wearer’s field of view. These glasses will pair with a phone via Bluetooth. As per reports, Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer will be making these glasses.

It's still early to say, how ambitious Intel’s plans really are but one thing is for sure that a major player like Intel (which would maintain a stake in the enterprise) jumping into this field will give a good competition to other companies like Apple, Facebook, and Google which are all publicly focusing on phone-based AR.
