The apparent goods such as money or the pleasures of the body are presented to man's reason, but the truly intelligent man, and not the frivolous man, understands that behind these goods there is a higher good, which is wisdom.
And this was what King Solomon understood when God appeared to him in a dream in the sacred place of Gibeon and offered to grant him a wish. And Solomon, who had been crowned King, asked God for a heart that knows how to listen, and this deeply pleased God and in response God gave him a wise and understanding heart. And as the Bible tells, as Solomon grew in that wise heart, God gave the king success in everything he set out to do, prosperity and long life accompanied the King, and the people of Israel were blessed with the happiness.
And in memory of all the actions of this notable wise man, the Book of Proverbs reminds the readers of the Bible through its phrases of the importance of seeking wisdom as that hidden treasure that must be found, and with these words the Book of Proverbs delivers an inspirational quote about the issue: "A wise person's thoughts control his words, and his speech promotes instruction" Proverbs 16:23.
A wise heart is essentially a heart free of passions such as guilt, anger, and envy; this is why the thoughts of a wise man control his words, a wise man is fundamentally a person who has achieved spiritual perfection in every sense. And the Book of Proverbs also says that true instruction comes from a wise man, and this is so because a wise man is precise and accurate in what he thinks and what he does, in other words, the truth rests in the understanding of the mind. And it is for all this that the Book of Proverbs also teaches a phrase not to forget with the purpose to bless those who seek instruction: "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm" Proverbs 13:20.
