Some things; you have to constantly improve your ability to stay employed.. so there's not much slacking off.
Programming is like that these days; have to keep learning new skills yearly. But most wouldn't do it if they didn't find it so fascinating, what is possible to build..
learning is growing and if you are not growing, you are dying. :)
