QUO VADIS?
Quo Vadis?? From the Latin word meaning “Where are you going?”. Are you reaching your goals in life? Many of us turns procrastination into virtue without knowing it. By saying “I’m a perfectionist”, “I’m not in good mood to do it”, or simply “Tomorrow, I will finish it”. Countless excuses that distracts us from starting or completing our goals in life. We can end procrastination by breaking the desired goals into small pieces. The saying “one day at a time” suits this idea. The dilemma that we face that’s why this bad habit sets-in is that we always think of the future as a whole. When we start to look that far ahead many of us automatically go into “negative mode”. Our subconscious mind tells us that it is not possible to do all the plans that we set for ourselves.
Manana habit it is a spanish term during the time of the Spaniards in the Philippines, wherein if one has a task today he will stop or delay what he is doing and will think that there is still time for tomorrow (future negative mode). Why not use the approach “one day at a time” using real-time positive thinking instead of negative future visualization (saka na lang attitude) and accomplishing the task little by little. For example, if I say that you will have to write a book (it maybe a fiction, love story or anything you can think of) in one year’s time, can you do it? Some of us will answer no and will think that it is impossible because we were not trained writers or that we have not attended writing classes (which is part of excuses). But if I ask you to write one page per day, will you do it? I know majority of us will say “yes I can”.
Opposite of procrastination is perseverance. Perseverance means you never quit. Try observing the ants they “never quit”. If they are going somewhere and you try to stop them, they will eventually find another way. They never quit looking for a way to get where they are going. It might also help if we keep a diary or journal to have a record our daily activities. This is to know if the goal you have set for yourself is align with the activities you are doing. It forces you to see what you are actually doing and what you’re not doing. You maybe surprised by the distractions and detours that keep you off in realizing your dreams. Thru perseverance you could carry out things you never thought you could do. A simple shift of our mindset could really make a difference of knowing where we are going or headed for. Seize the opportunities while you still can. “Never give up like the ants, live life to the fullest everyday, turn passivity into productivity, always have a cheerful outlook in life and without you knowing it your dreams or goals are within your arm’s reach”.
