Asking God for More Power and Anointing is Wrong.

Could you please read my thought provoking article.
Most times in Church, we hear believers pray and fast for God to give them more anointing, more power, according to the reality of God's Word, it is wrong. From the Words of Jesus in Act 1:8 : And ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you. We discover that the true source of power is the Holy Ghost and to get power is by receiving the Holy Ghost into our lives. So if the Holy Ghost lives in you, you don't need to ask God for more power because the Holy Ghost is the embodiment of all power. See Psalm 62:11.
The Holy Ghost only had to come upon God's prophets like Moses, Samson, Elijah, David, Isaiah, Samuel etc to fulfill a particular task and goes but for Jesus the Bible says " for he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him" John 3:34. The Lord Jesus had the Holy Ghost in him without measure.
Now, consider this; the same Jesus, in John 20:22, said " as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." If Jesus required the full measure of the Holy Ghost to do the work the Father sent Him, and He has sent us as the Father sent Him, why then would we be sent with a measure and not the fullness of the Spirit?
The Holy Spirit came into you to make you His tabernacle, He lives in you in all His glory, might, wisdom and strength. He is all you need nothing more.

Sort:

The Holy Spirit indwelled certain men in the Old Testament to accomplish what God wanted them to do. Just as you said.

The Holy Spirit indwells believers at the moment they're saved. As you grow in Christian maturity and obedience the Holy Spirit can have greater influence. You can then do what God calls you to do based on that.

There is a precedent for asking for more of the Spirit. I just don't think it applies to believers today.

(2 Kings 2:8-12 NIV) Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. {9} When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied. {10} "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours--otherwise not." {11} As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. {12} Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart.

Nice point. Thanks
