I remember growing up as a kid and the beautiful stories i hear from my parents,grandparents and other older people around me and in my neighborhood at the time. Their stories depicted their lives and ways of living, lifestyle character, behaviour, personality, development, achievements and most importantly morals. Listening to them and reading other Literature, i noticed one thing in particular as move from one generation to the other. There is a trend of moral decay and a lapse of moral standards as we move from one generation to the other (old to the new). So i noticed, that as the world plunged in more into civilization into the generations, moral standards dropped even more. So what does this mean?
Is Civilization and Modernization promoting a society of no morals?

This is the question i ask myself sometimes when i lool around the World today. My Father sometimes talk about how he met my mother and the difficult means he implored just to see her sometimes. He said this was because, things like that between a man and woman were considered very seriously in their society back then and moral standards were very high. Sex before marriage was considered a serious issue unlike today where it is no big deal.

Welcome to the 21st century whete we are seeing humanity at its worst moral state. Where a man meets a lady in a party and after that Sex, where we have teenagers engaging into alcoholism and sex all in the name of partyinh and having fun, where we have young teenagers and older people doing zdrugs and destroying themselves, welcome to this century where a young unmarried person is mocked and laughed at because he/she is still a virgin; I don't know why that should be a reason of mockery or laughter instead.

I remember the movie industry especially Nollywood of Nigeria back in 2005. Around that time, you hardly found sex scenes in their movies. They acted well censored and educative movies. In episodes that implied a sex act, all we could see were the two actors and the screen went dark and to the next episode and the viewers understood. Even without this, when someone said they were pregnant, who does not know how pregnancy comes about?
But today, in the movies they have to show you the Sex scenes from the undressing to the aftermath and you ask yourself if this is pornography or a movie.
Gone are those days that you can confidently watch their movies with your family and kids around. How did we get to this state?
Sex has become a thing of fun and not a secret act of bonding between man and wife as it was in the older generations. One night stands have become the norm and the rule is "I like you, you like me then it's Ok to have sex"; and how terrible it is that. Some parents nowadays have grown so tired and the phenomenon has gone so out of control that all they can do is try to advise their kids on protective sexual measures.

Good morals and decency has become a thing of the past, the few who hold on to it are labelled as old school, wanna be priests/sisters and other names. They are laughed at, criticized and seen as weirdos and freaks.
I mourn woefully for the estate of the world at this point. Especially Africa, that was once a morally upright continent with high moral standards, with responsible and decent people in society but now has fallen into the seducing arms of this darkness. We have embraced the pollution and are now incorporated into it like never before. We have abandoned our positive culture, values, moral standards for the new ever changing foreign fashions, standards and norms of life. When are we going to realize this is not us or who we are or our way of life.

Civilization was supposed to make us better people, acting in a civilized way but it looks like we behave even more primitively than those of the former generations. How?
Which generation has experienced escalating rise in rape victims, crime rate, violence, Child abuse, dug abuse and addiction etc? This one undoubtedlyand it keeps getting worse and worse everyday.
How did we get to this state again?
If only our fathers and forefathers could see what we have become; then surely they will shed tears of disappointment and pity upon us.

What i fear most is, if this trend of moral decay should continue in the latter generations then it is only fair to say life on here will be something unimaginable. The state of things are already terrible now and to think how it will look like if things get any worse is unimaginable. Even i will not wish any descendant of mine live in that age.
When it comes to morals, this world for sure needs fixing and it all boils down to you and me to do so. Be a standard ormoral figure, setting yourself as an example for your kids, sisters/brothers, family, community, continent and the world at large. You need to be a positive influence on all others around you showing them the way.
I am tired of older ones saying

Do what i say and not what i do

We need examples and role models to set out the way and pave the way for others to follow. We need healthy moral standards in the society for sure. Are you not tired of seeing these teens with big tummies, children being abused, sexual assault, loved ones suffering from addictions, crimes, our loved ones in rehab institutions etc. What if we had the opportunity to change all these? Won't we give it a shot?
Well, this a time for us to set our moral standards straight, our values and the things that set us apart as humans.

This world has got some fixing to do and we need to see that first if we must fix it.

A problem cannot be solved unless it exists in the first place.

So if you agree with me that there is a problem then we have to stand up to solve it. We are humans and not some beasts. When you look at the state we've got to, even some beasts are better than us.
How did we really get to this state?
This darkness of moral pollution is taking over and we need lights to shine in the darkness. A light for our kids, loved ones, future generations, Africa and the World.
