When Outsiders Amaze The World Or Never Say It's Over Until It's Over

Here's the story from the world of sports that inspired me to share with Steemians tody. 

I don't know about you, but I'm following the Olympics. Although I'm not practicing sports anymore, I do follow them, in particular winter sports which are very popular in my country. 

The motivation for this post was yesterday's unexpected win of Czech athlete Ester Ledecka who surprised and amazed the world by winning the super-G Olympic gold medal. If you don't follow alpine skiing, you may probably wonder what's so special in this win. Well, the fact is that Ester is the World Champion and 2 times World Cup winner in snowboard. She only started to compete in alpine skiing two years ago and she never won any race before in this discipline. It was her biggest dream to be the first athlete competing in two different disciplines on one winter Olympics. She didn't just achieve that, she also won gold medal in the first of the 2 disciplines. The second one is about to start next week...

How unexpected this victory was, is shown by the fact that NBC proclaimed the winner of super-G after the first 20 athletes have finished the race, and switched to broadcast of another discipline. Ester Ledecka started her race with number 26 and she WON! She couldn't believe what she had accomplished and her reaction in the finish line was priceless 🙂
