At the University of Michigan, autonomous buses

in #innovationnews7 years ago

On the campus of the University of Michigan will begin to run unmanned electric buses. The length of the route will be two miles (3.2 kilometers), it will pass through a closed for motor transport zone between the University Engineering Center and the northern part of the campus. Two buses will run on the route with an interval of 10 minutes during the working day.

Serving the route will be autonomous, fully electric Nayva Arma buses manufactured in France. Buses are capable of carrying 15 passengers at a top speed of 45 kilometers per hour. Nayva Arma uses a combination of LIDAR, GPS, built-in cameras and Wi-Fi. This vehicle is already being tested around the world, including 220 hectares of power plant in western France.

Scientists from the University of Michigan will monitor how passengers and pedestrians react to buses without a driver. Also, researchers will conduct user surveys to create safe routes for autonomous vehicles that can work more efficiently.

"This is the first automated route on the campus in the world, an important research project that will help us understand the challenges and opportunities offered by autonomous transport," said Hui Peng, a mechanical engineering professor at the University of Michigan.

It's great! More likely already and in Russia have appeared!

Ugly car 😭

I think, then they'll do even better)

That's cool. Although I would feel safer with a real human driving. Anything can go wrong with a machine.

And I on the contrary feel safer with the car. She can not show emotions and get angry with you, she can not be drunk, she will not have a heart attack and so on. Some advantages.
