Another pile of hardwood chips delivered, free of charge
This must be the forth or fifth truck load of mulch delivered to me this year. Across the street some Oak trees were being cut down. So I went over to the tree crew and asked them if they had any mulch.
As soon as I asked he knew what I was wanting. And I pointed across the street and asked him to back up into the drive way and dump all of their hardwood chips from the day.
I prefer hardwood mulch such as the Oak tree they cut down. The wood lasts longer making it release its nutrients slowly over many years. Softwood chips from trees like Pines tend to break down within a year or two.
As he leaves I can smell the mulch, all that good hard wood. It was shredded quite nicely and should make for some great mulch and soil conditioner.
The tree trimming company is happy too, as I saved them the expense and time of going to the local dump and dropping off the hardwood chips there.
