Welcome to a blogging series I am naming "Let's Talk Facts/Logic/Context". These types of posts will help contribute to the #informationwar @informationwar by showing facts, discussing logic, and detailing the context of any given story/news report/breaking news/topic.

Facts

  1. On a yearly basis, guns are used over 70x to 80x more often to protect a life than to take one. Ever heard MSM saying this? Nope.

  2. Roughly 200,000 women in the USA use guns in self defense yearly to defend against sexual abuse. Do we ever hear this number thrown around? Nope.

  3. On average a school shooting lasts 12.5 minutes, with the average police response time being 18 minutes. As the saying goes, when seconds matter the police are minutes away.

  4. Depending on where you live, the police response time can very between 4 minutes to 1 hour. With 1 hour typically being for people in the countryside and 4 minutes for people who live in upper class areas that have a large police presence.

Logic/Context

  1. What does the above mean when it says 70x to 80x more gun uses are to protect life vs taking a life? Taking a life in this context includes murder and defending yourself legally. Protecting life means that you used a gun to protect yourself or others, by either pulling it out with intent to use it/using it to wound another to protect yourself or others/using it with deadly force to protect yourself or others. You are allowed(state laws permitted) to legally defend yourself from harm with use of deadly force. Some states require you try to retreat before using deadly force, others do not. Some states allow you to level your weapon at someone if they pose a threat and others do not. But the key figure is that overall guns are used defensively and at a 70x to 80x rate per year are not used to kill someone when drawn.
From the AmericanGunFacts Link "Based upon Kleck & Gertz estimates of 2.5 million defensive gun uses per year (see source #2). A similar study in 1994 under President Clinton (Source) found this number to be 1.5 million, which would result in guns being used over 47x more often to defend a life than to take one.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 436,000 crimes were committed with a firearm in 2008 (Source). This would mean guns are used 5.7 or 3.4 times (using Kleck or Clinton respectively) more often to defend against a crime than to commit one. "

  2. Did you know roughly 200,000 women per year use guns in self defense to prevent sexual abuse? Roughly 315,000 men and women total per year are sexually abused/raped. With only 1/3 of all Americans owning a weapon, it is easy to see how many more sexual abuses could be prevented, but the MEDIA WILL NOT TELL WOMEN/MEN TO ARM THEMSELVES. Most of these women are not shooting or killing the perp as detailed above, brandishing the weapon/warning someone you have a weapon is usually sufficient to get them to go away, eg. They are using it as a warning to back off or face the consequences.

  3. The average school shooting lasting 12.5 minutes, meaning that the shooter is continuously going around a school or area, shooting multiple people or trying to, reloading multiple times, etc, you get the idea. In the amount of time it takes for any reactionary forces to show up(police/swat/security guards), the shooter would have already basically done what they wanted to do(more or less be evil) and likely used up all extra ammo they brought in. The entire reason of pointing this out is that obviously unless there is someone already nearby armed in the school or area(police/security/concealed carry teachers) then the reactionary forces would never arrive in time.
An experienced shooter likely can fire 3 to 4 rounds a second, but would have to reload every 30 rounds assuming it was a 30 round mag. Reloading can take 3 to 5 seconds or even faster depending on practice. Myself for example, I am able to fire 30 shots in about 5.2 seconds(will upload the vid tonight), or something around 6 shots per second. Why is that, lots of video game playing with left clicking in First Person Shooter games, tens of thousands of hours + lots of time with real guns. Im sure other people shoot faster, but the point is that a person not trained well at all could easily fire 1 or 2 rounds a second consistently. Even then it is too late for first responders to show up, likely 500 to 1,500 bullets were already fired in that amount of time.

  4. Someone breaking into your house at night? Better hope you don't live in the country side where it can take up to an hour or even more. Living in a tightly packed city the police may be able to get to where you are within 4 minutes(obviously could be faster if they happen to be nearby). But that still is minutes when all you have is about what, 10 to 15 seconds? How long does it take for you to walk from your front door to your bedroom? Less than 10 to 15 seconds right? Did you know that when you call 911 it rings a few times before an operator picks up? And that operator usually transfers you to the local police department nearby you, it transfers you to the cops cell phone usually(I have gone through this multiple times).

Now I am armed, so not really an issue, and I am not a heavy sleeper so I could have taken care of things had someone actually got in successfully like they almost did one time(they sucked at lock picking so much and made too much noise and I woke up and just held the locks down and watched them try to do it). They gave up eventually and left, oh, and the cops who showed up later to the scene saw the two guys milling around in the parking lot and just let them go(despite me calling the cops telling them two guys are trying to break in). Doy.

Logically at a macro level of analysis we can conclude guns are used defensively more and overall a net positive on all fronts. That we all should have simple window/door alarms to alert us to these things happening/should be armed and trained and versed in the laws of self defense for your state. And we should not rely on the government to protect us, relying on yourself is the first step in becoming more free!

Our Purpose

I have personally used firearms multiple times to protect my family without ever firing a shot. The number of defensive uses of firearms is grossly underestimated in the USA, and probably not reported at all in most countries, particularly those in strife.

I can't imagine trying to live in Afghanistan without firearms.

Thanks!

Glad everything went ok when you had to use it! :)

After the incident I briefly mentioned in my post tha thappened to me, I have trained clearing my house hundreds of times and from every angle. I have some secret knives hidden throughout and multiple places for guns now. Some window alarms/door alarms. + I have two attack cats! lol, but not really, the funny thing though is that the one cat is so afraid of other people sh eiwll always run away and hide if anyone is over. So if I see the one cat being normal I know nobody is in the house:)

not to mention the fact that the police are under no legal obligation to provide protection to anyone.

ahh yes, such as the cop at the recent school shooting who didnt do anything. he wont get in any legal trouble.

They have gone to court and affirmed that they have no obligation to protect anyone, because of course that is not their job, their job is to gather evidence and arrest people who have committed crimes, not to stop them. Even if they wanted to they simply don't have the ability to protect anyone.

It is sad that they do not have any obligation to protect anyone. That job should require it.

you can't keep a cop in your pocket.

Oh I have something better in my pocket!

:)

and here I thought you were just happy to see me. ;)

400 homicides from "assualt weapons" per year; 4000 homicides per year from criminal invader/illegal alien

yet the pinkos screech about the first and demand the second...

Ahem, I think you mean cultural enrichment of 4,000 per year.

What I don’t get about the whole thing is they out lawed bombs, everyone can agree no one except military should have bombs, yet there are still bombing things. So ban guns because it will stop what.... I guess criminals won’t get killed because only people that are crazy or are doing criminal acts are doing these things. They are not the law bidding citizens doing them. Great post keep it up.🤔👍👏👏👏👏👏👏

Wow!, i am loving this whole issue of #informationwar. Interesting points you listed there @truthforce.

Glad you enjoyed the read. More facts to follow in the future :)

Ok, will be visiting your blog to check.

They'd be used more if more people were armed and it was a bit more socially acceptable, and yes people have a hard time mitigating the fact that guns aren't designed to destroy life but to protect it.

So true.....👍👍

wow so very nice post.
