The American airline American Airlines announced on Friday the suspension of its flights to Venezuela amid the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the increase of security concerns in the country.

"American has temporarily suspended our operation in Caracas and Maracaibo," the airline said in a statement. "The safety and protection of our team members and customers is always first and American will not operate in countries that we do not consider safe."

American Airlines had two flights per week to Caracas and one to Maracaibo, all from Miami.
