Carelessness of Habit

in #informationwar6 years ago (edited)

Somehow I believe that all human beings act under automatic principles in which the brain after processing information that is repeated in time (monotony) is able to execute it by inertia. I remember when I learned to ride a bicycle, my mind was focused on the pedals and the steering wheel, crossing at the right time and pedaling correctly but doing so many times no longer thought about these factors and it seemed that the brain governed the bicycle without me having to even think about how to ride it. In fact you can ride a bicycle or any other vehicle that at first required concentration without now devoting the slightest attention and let our brains act out of habit in my opinion is an oversight!

The repetitive tasks in fact often cause many accidents and is that the brain takes these events as if from an algorithm (process by which whenever you follow the same steps you will reach the same result no matter how many times you do) is a problem, the problem is that life is not an algorithm and there are many variables that can alter the course of things, to say a little more clearly if we are doing a repetitive activity our strength and concentration will not be the same when we do it for the first time when we have done a lot of times.

But the problem is not only physical but also mental because our mind has the ability to "get used to" but real life is changing, to give an example suppose that you have been driving your own vehicle for 5 years and in that time you have never driven another, yours works 100% and is a small vehicle but suddenly you are given another larger vehicle and with problems in the direction which makes crossing requires more effort. What's going to happen in the first place is that you're not going to feel comfortable in the new vehicle and maybe you can touch other vehicles while trying to get past them, all this will happen because your brain will want to drive the second vehicle as if it were the first because of habit.

When we see everything from the point of view that I have raised, we can say that there are two ways of doing things:

1.- When we use our concentration in what we do and are attentive to everything going well, in this case we will be able to notice any change in nature, in our body and in the environment and to offer quick answers that can solve the situation.

When we let the custom do things for us, in this case we go down the street but our mind is in another place and we can even pass near someone known and not even notice him because we are not concentrated in our environment but we put our body in "automatic pilot" mode. In this case is when a change in the variable produces errors that ends even in accidents.

Thinking about the above I can say that custom is an oversight because when we get used to something we end up neglecting (taking away attention) and ceases to be important to us, is something that happens not only in our work but also with our families and couples, cases in which monotony begins to replace love and then kisses and smiles become automatic. As time goes by we no longer give importance to those loved ones and cause harm to those who love us and in the long run we do harm to ourselves.

When you do things in "autopilot mode" you are giving up your life to let yourself be carried away by the current of habit. New ideas will only come when you begin to live your life concentrating on what you do, you will have new ideas and for sure it will be different because you are treating with attention and interest the fragments of time that life puts in front of you.

I hope this message has been useful to you, thank you for reading me and until a next opportunity. May God bless your life.
