There is a book series called "The Sword of Truth" authored by Terry Goodkind. The first in the series is called the wizard's first rule, stay with me.
The long and short of the book's message is that "people believe only what they want to believe, therefor you can harness their passion and use it to control them."
Ergo, find out what your enemy holds to be truth, Hijack it's purpose and turn it against them.
