Ask the Brits. It worked pretty well against them. You fail to understand that the "resistance" in Syria is an outside mercenary proxy army. In other words, your entire scenario isn't true.

I suppose acknowledging that your country was convinced to secede from His Majesty's government by gullible rice farmers, either bribed or conned by the smuggler mafia, would not engender the blind 'Murican patriotism. Do you Yanks actually believe that the colonial revolt would have succeeded without the military, financial, and logistical assistance from the Bourbon France and Bourbon Spain?
The militia scum in the vaunted "Continental Army" scattered to the winds, upon their first contact with His Majesty's expeditionary force, despite Colonel Washington's attempt at keeping these dogs in some semblance of military formation, using his horse whip. Your colonial revolt was fought by "outside mercenary proxies" of the Bourbon dynasty against the legitimate military force of the Hanover dynasty. The situation in Syria is exactly the same as your much celebrated American "Revolution."
