CNN would never use fake footage in their segments!

The mainstream media as a whole is pretty terrible all of the time but during the Covid times their complete disregard for journalistic standards and ethics have just been abysmal. Misrepresenting statistic, taking quotes out of context or snipping a quote to fit a certain narrative, and selective reporting on the bigger picture to progress continued panic is just a few of the things that have become all-too-common in news stories these days.

We have seen #fakenews reach an apex (hopefully, how much worse can they get?) in the past few weeks and this latest example is just one of no doubt, many where the networks cant find a situation as urgent as they would like to portray so they simply use some footage that is somewhat similar to what they want the situation to be. They will then present the story as if this was relevant footage when in fact they are very aware of the fact that they are "cheating."

A man named Jeremy Jack (cool two first name, name, dude!) got some messages from his son saying that "you are on CNN right now about Covid!" and Jack had no idea what his son was talking about. He later found the footage that CNN had used in order to show people purchasing supplies in preparation for Coronavirus all over the country while a psychiatrist talks about how to deal with coronavirus anxiety.

There is just one problem with this footage: It was taken from 2017 and was in relation to Hurricane Harvey and has nothing to do with Covid-19.

To be fair to CNN, they did in fact put "Houston" over the footage while it was running, but this doesn't change the fact that the footage was from 3 years ago and from a completely unrelated event. The reason that I am saying this is because many reports on this are suggesting that CNN was trying to present the footage as having been from San Francisco, which is not what they were doing.

Jack posted his story to social media saying:

Okay.. I have held my tongue about this COVID-19 insanity but after #CNN used MY face to report outright LIES that continue to incite the mass hysteria around this issue.. all bets are off! My son starts blowing up my phone today saying DAD you are on the news about the Corona Virus! I was completely confused.. so I find out that while reporting on the conditions in San Francisco as a result of the virus they used footage of ME and others during Hurricane Harvey in HOUSTON lined up outside of Kroger’s on Westheimer near the Beltway! CNN is using MY face to present misleading journalism that continues to seriously impact our economy and the every day decision making of the public. This is not okay.. do actual research for yourself. Get info from Health Organizations and local/national government. Take general safety precautions. Ignore the news..,”

Given the egregious nature of this level of reporting, one would think that the media would be all over this but no, it is very difficult to find anyone talking about this at all. The sites I did find that mention it are all very minor and I haven't heard of most of them before.

I want to be as fair as possible to CNN here and state again that they did in fact put "Houston" on the image while they were running it, but this doesn't change the fact that they were presenting the story as if it was something that was happening NOW and did not indicate that it was stock footage from years ago during a completely-unrelated-to-covid event.

We can't trust anything that these people are doing these days and I am thankful to report that I am not aware of anyone that I personally know that takes anything from the MSM seriously. I hope you can say the same

It is really shocking what they get up to and I for one don't even watch the news anymore. I couldn't tell you what is true and what is fake. I don't get it as they love disasters to report on but they are so caught up in fighting Trump it has twisted everything.

agreed. Those press conferences are frustrating to watch as the reporters ask the same effing questions over and over and over again looking for a sound byte. They aren't even looking for actual answers, just a quote for a clickbait article. It's really stupid and counterproductive.

I just noticed that the media is really going after Sweden now for not doing the same thing as the rest of Europe.... because that is working so well for all of them.
