I've always wondered, how does one speak in such a society without being accused of being [Insert literally any label]?
How is this not a form of self-censorship?
Not only self-censorship, but actual censorship through conformity to dominating societal norms.
How can this problem be solved? If it's not solved in time, it can have dire consequences.
I think part of the solution to solving it is to mock it. Highlight the absurdity of something.
If you go through and read some of the tweets, people accuse her of "Shunning the Men of Color because they are Men of Color", while others accuse her of "Ignoring these men are Men of Color". lol.
Even if a person self censored and became a mute, they would still offend someone at some point. Someone would ask them a question and the mute person would just stare at them not able to reply and the person asking the question would get upset they are "being ignored".
The only logical end to all of the insanity is death(gulag/concentrataion camps/purges/etc). That is always what ends up happening too.
I agree, the comical aspect can be powerful, indeed.
In terms of actual dialogue between the two parties in this debate; there is none. Highlighting this to them would be a great start, but since people are inclined to stick to their bubbles of belief, they'll probably not receive the message.
The culture itself is also starting to change, social justice is on the rise (perhaps due to Hollywood influences, the rise of individualism and people thinking that they are the main lead in some superhero movie), but if it's not addressed in a proper manner, society will degrade to a complete state of self-censorship where comedy, and ultimately free speech disappears.
It's definitely moving towards a dangerous direction.
