Is Greed Good Or Bad?

in #informationwar6 years ago (edited)

We usually refer to greed as something bad, as a negative aspect that we can have to human beings, the desire to accumulate goods, wealth and even power no matter what you do to get them tend to be seen as something bad. Certainly, if you need to kill someone or something in order to get wealth, it is, at least from my point of view, but can greed be used in a positive way?

From a psychological and logical point of view, greed is the reason why we human beings have the motivation to make, improve and achieve our goals, therefore, without it, communities would be a disaster, there would be no progress because no one would have the desire to have something more, to be better than others, to have more wealth, fame and power. We human beings have the capacity to project ourselves into the future, which is why greed is more developed in our species and taking into account that our society is materialistic and the results we can observe because of it, we can say that greed is not a bad thing.

We can debate morality, but all the goods you have, products you consume and services you use come from the minds and greed of the people who created them, logically, those people wanted to make a lot of money in exchange for those creations and probably did, but in turn, they benefited you and society because of the good or service they created. Greed is then a fuel for our motivation and our desire to progress to meet our future goals, wanting more is not bad, it is bad if you hurt someone to get it, it is good if to get it you generate some benefit for someone else, working, creating something that will benefit society or generate some progress for it.

It is useless to try to fight against greed, if you are offered two jobs with exactly the same conditions, except for the pay, you will choose the one that pays you the best, in the case of steemit, you can post on other blogs, however steemit has the incentive to pay you for it, therefore it is a better option to make your time and your investment worthwhile. To want more is never too much, to be greedy is something inevitable and it is something that is not bad or good, always depends on actions.

In short, desire is not inherently bad, if we all worked hard enough to meet our needs alone there would be no progress... Or failing that, a very slow one. The desire for money, power, food or sex is not a bad thing... Neither is anything good, they are simply desires whose morality will be defined depending on the actions taken to obtain them, it is as simple as that. We must support and develop a good and positive greed where to win and get where we want to go we have to benefit society in one way or another, but that thought that "every form of greed is bad", that is something the churches say... And the world has proven them wrong. Thanks for reading, peace.

Greed was never good. It gives you a wish for something you just can not achieve (at least not if you don't know any person in higher rank - personally ) Greed makes your life miserable. If you care about your health, don't be greedy

All human beings are greedy at least a little, we all want something we would like to have, to say otherwise would be to deny nature. Greed is the only thing that motivates us to become something better, by educating ourselves so that we can work and/or create ways to achieve our goals, certainly, we will always want more. It is an insatiable thing, but let's say that with greed we will live "well", if you work for your goals then it is likely that you will have many more goods and wealth than if you did not work for them. Therefore, you and society will be "better" than if no one had done anything at all. On the other hand, without greed, we human beings would be absolutely conformist, to the point that we would not need anything except what is necessary to survive... In other words, misery. Greed is not in itself bad, nor is it good, yet its very existence and the effect it has on our societies has done much more good than bad, however much one may want to see the opposite, today's progress comes from the greed of people who have to share it out.

What you are talking about is not greed itself. Greed means, you are never satisfied, you always want something more. In history, word greed is mostly used in a sense of grabbing and holding everything for yourself. Nowdays, I know some people who always want more and are never satisfied, and that kind of behaviour does not do any good for your personality. I see that daily as people are not satesfied with what they have, but they have plenty of things, gadgets, good life...and they always want more. That is greed.

They have a good life, they want an even better life, that's not bad. It would be bad if they had a bad or regular life and didn't want to do anything to improve it, as I said before, there are different levels of greed, when you are so greedy that you feel miserable and can't sleep at night because of it, that will obviously hurt you... But using greed to fuel your ambition and motivate you to achieve your goals doesn't hurt your personality, quite the contrary. And thanks to this, positive results are achieved, for the individual and society.

Greed is never good, it is a negative emotion. It is the motion that you deserve something that you don't have.

Not to be confused with the wish to make something better. Or the need for things like food and companionship. Those are not negative emotions (but of coruse can turn into them).
