RE: There Is No Middle Ground On Transgender Rights

in #informationwar7 years ago

In every dictionary I can find Gender Dysphoria is considered a mental illness. There are thousands white papers written by psychologists that clearly define transgenderism as a mental illness and IMO that is the general consensus. It's ok to disagree, that is the beauty of liberty and freedom.

Sort:

mental illnes and conditions are two different things. Either way, saying people with dysphoria shouldn't get treatment is disgusting.

Where did I say " people with dysphoria shouldn't get treatment "?? Please show me

in your original reply.

Nope, never said that!

Either you're an idiot, or trying to play a game. Either way, I'm not having it.

Prove it, I have no idea what you're talking about lol

Illness? as in a condition that causes harm and/or stress? Then if someone one is uncomfortable with being treated and living as a cis gender individual, then the logical cure is to let them transition and live as the gender that fits them.
So, if people dismiss transgenderism as an illness, that is literally someone siding with the problem not the cure, and actually causing problems in society for a group of people that are just trying to lives their lives.

There was also a time when homosexuality was considered a mental illness, or being left handed, headaches were also once blamed on evil spirits.
Contemporary society has evolved beyond a point where gender dysphoria is considered a mental illness.

With that logic the same can be said about any mental illness

Asperger Syndrome
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
Agoraphobia
Claustrophobia
Depersonalization Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Panic Disorder & Panic Attacks
Separation anxiety disorder
Social anxiety disorder / Social Phobia

etc... Maybe you just don't like the term mental illness because it has a negative connotation?

Classifying transgenderism as an illness isn't dismissive. The evidence is clear that people with dysphoria have extremely high suicide rates. 41.8 percent of respondents stated that they had attempted suicide at some point in their lives. An overwhelming majority are linked to other major mental illnesses. I personally don't think we as a society should promote a condition or mental illness (whatever you would like to call it) as something positive when clearly it creates a group of highly suicidal people.

The only reason people want to kill themselves is because of people like you saying they shouldn't get treatment. Let that sink it. 100% of trans people I know would have AMAZING lives if it weren't for people like you.

It's very likely that 100% of the trans people you know equally play the same victimization game as you do.

Trans people can be trans but nobody should subsidize it. Trans-people don't deserve reparations and they don't deserve sex changes on tax payers dime.

Literally has nothing to do with the argument, dumbass.

You just want an excuse to be on the "opposing side", which is hateful and evil. You just hate trans people, admit it already.

I'm just adding more to the conversation.

Hateful and evil? We're just talking, you getting butthurt is of no importance to me and I'm not responsible for your reactions. I don't hate trans people, but it doesn't matter what I'll say because you'll just continuously smear me. Lmao

You literally claim trans women are inherently deceptive unless they tell someone on a first date their entire life story.

I've been raped, that doesn't mean on a first date I need to tell everyone about it to ensure that they're okay with what I need as a result. It's a first date. Chill. You clearly don't go out often if you think this is normal behavior for a first date.

I didn't claim they were inherently deceptive.lmao

Me saying "some trans" isn't me throwing all transgenders under the bus. Context is key.

I never said to tell your whole life story. I'm just saying, some details about certain things would be nice depending on the context or the situation and transparency isn't a bad thing and looking for or at least advocating for transparency isnt being "bigoted".

...if you think this is normal behavior.

I never once said that, you made shit up and believed your own stupidity.

Yeah, that technically is dismissive, and openly dishonest.
If you want to call it a disorder, then you should be willing to admit proper treatment is transitioning into a body and or gender role that is more comfortable to the person experiencing the dysphoria.

While it would also be wrong to deny treatment or general respect to anyone based on those above mental illnesses, it's also not the same thing to call gender dysphoria a mental illness.

This whole thread was spawned from a comment saying "If you have any compassion for people who suffer from transgenderism or Gender Dysphoria, you should not promote this illness as a lifestyle choice." and the post that comment was on is literally about transgender people being mistreated by the general public, with an example of someone actually dying.
To follow that up with a claim that the post shouldn't be made because it "Supports and illness as a lifestyle choice" is clearly making a statement against supporting the needs of people who are trans-gender.

There is good reasons why it has become outdated to consider Gender Dysphoria as a mental illness, again it is akin to the outdated concept of labeling homosexuality as a mental illness, or left handedness...
As for connections to suicide, dysphoria with any serious part of life alone could explain that, and then on top of that you have the extremely hostile attitudes that come from various parts of society, and it's pretty understandable why transgender and other LGBTQ groups often have high suicide rates.
The problem there should be clear, that one of the biggest problems with gender dysphoria isn't just the dysphoria, but dealing with trans-phobia.
