It is true that a living being, to be a part of the group, merely needs proximity. However when you re talking about the laws and rules of a society, proximity does not cut it. Each individual must consciously decide not only to be a member, but to act in the societies favor. Nothing in this world is free and that which is valuable is also expensive. Thus the question for individual members of a society is also the answer. What will the individual members die for?
