Two formations of the radical right announced on Tuesday that they had signed a union agreement for the March 2 elections, the day after the announcement of an alliance between the two main Israeli left-wing parties.
The "New Right" party of Defense Minister Naftali Bennett and former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and the religious nationalist formation "National Union", led by the current Minister of Transport, Betzalel Smotrich, will run on a joint list, according to a statement by the "New Right".
"This union of all currents of religious Zionism and the secular right ensures the formation of a strong right-wing government," Shaked said in the statement.
The three leaders called on Education Minister Rafi Peretz, the head of the Jewish Home Party, another religious right-wing group, to join them.
Members of the central committee of the Jewish Home voted Sunday evening to agree to a union agreement with the far-right group Jewish Force. This agreement with a party considered by some as "racist" has prevented for the time being the union of all formations to the right of Likud, the party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel: Netanyahu comfortably reappointed as head of Likud.
In the September elections, the three parties ran on a common list and won 7 seats, while "Jewish Force" failed to win 3.25%, the threshold necessary to enter parliament.
The Israeli political parties have until Wednesday midnight to present their lists to the electoral commission.
The Israeli political scene is in full turmoil before the legislative news, convened after the failure of Netanyahu and his centrist rival Benny Gantz to form a coalition government after the last elections in September.
To form this coalition, the support of 61 of the 120 members of parliament must be secured.
On Monday, the Israeli Labour Party and the left-wing Meretz party announced their alliance in view of the March 2 legislative elections with the aim of countering Netanyahu.
