Influence and the targeting of single men

I was just reading an article on 9to5Mac that was basically an advertorial for Apple, which included a Match.com survey suggesting that 'If you’re a single man, and have an older iPhone, you might want to consider an upgrade…'

This article only serves two purposes and the first is to influence (psychologically nudge) a single man (who could be having a hard time meeting women) into making a purchasing decision to buy a product! Suggesting that if you buy this product, your chances of meeting women will increase!

The second purpose is the help increase the profits of Apple by selling you a newer iPhone!!

First of all, excuse the expletive but I want to call BULLSHIT on this article!

This is exploitation aimed at the vulnerable namely single men with the goal of getting them to upgrade from an older iPhone, which by the way, Apple just found itself in a major scandal over the throttling of its iPhone batteries. You can read more here: http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-battery-throttling-gives-customers-reason-to-distrust-2017-12

I'm not promoting or encouraging you to upgrade your phone. In fact, I'm asking you to consider doing just the opposite by NOT upgrading it. If you're happy with it and it works for you, sit tight and save YOUR money.

Why? Because, the more money you save, the more money you have to do other things you enjoy!

Secondly, when it comes to dating and meeting new people the phone that you have, it's brand, processor, OS, these things just shouldn't matter. It's great for banter I suppose but what in the hell does it have to do with getting to know someone?

What in the hell does any of this have to do with having a good time and enjoying one another's company?

Are you beginning to follow where I'm going with this?

For years, businesses, corporations, brands have all spent billions to reach a target and in finding that target, deliver a message that persuades one to purchase their product.

By the way, I have a product, it's an ebook called 'The Slackers Method: A How to Guide for Meeting Women on Craigslist' and I may target you with a message some day so look out for it!! Ha ha ha, but I digress...

The point of the matter here is to not be persuaded into buying things to improve your status. I use to think that driving a really nice car and having a lot of money attracted women until I seen guys who didn't have a nice car or lots of money pulling women continuously.

What did they have that I didn't? And was this 'something' I didn't have, be something that could be acquired? You'll just have to read the book to find out but lets just say a fancy phone, a nice car and a lot of money aren't going to help you accept to attract a lot of the wrong types.

And besides, if you want someone to like you for you, you're not going to want someone who's just into you because you have a nice phone. How corny does that sound??

Anyways, read this article for yourself to see the absurdity that I see, in the notion they're suggesting.

And be on the look out for clever content like this designed to influence someone who could be vulnerable. The more you become aware, the less you'll be subject to clever marketing content like this! Reclaim your mind and stay above the influence!
