A designation used in conjunction with the consumer price index that indicates that the numbers cited exclude the highly volatile cost of food and energy.

Well it was nine degrees this morning and the winds were whipping at about 50 mph.

So knowing this was coming, we filled the propane tank yesterday even though it was at 45%. OUCH!
