Mawaih Merupakan Sistem Ekonomi Peternakan

Maintaining livestock is one of the livelihoods of the people of Aceh in addition to farming. The cattle that are kept consist of ducks, chickens, goats, sheep, cows and buffalo. The animals have become friends of the people of Aceh from the first until now. In the villages, it is rare to find a house without a cattle enclosure even if it is just a chicken coop or a duck. The people of Aceh consider livestock to be a savings in times of trouble or in times of adversity. Although the people of Aceh also keep emergency money in the form of gold, but the cattle are considered as a savings as well.

Memelihara ternak salah satu mata pencaharian masyarakat Aceh selain bertani. Ternak-ternak yang dipelihara terdiri dari bebek, ayam, kambing, domba, sapi dan kerbau. Hewan-hewan tersebut sudah menjadi teman hidup rakyat Aceh dari dulu hingga sekarang. Di desa-desa, jarang ditemui rumah tanpa kandang ternak walaupun hanya kandang ayam ataupun bebek. Masyarakat Aceh menganggap hewan ternak merupakan tabungan di saat-saat susah ataupun dalam masa kesulitan. Walaupun masyarakat Aceh juga menyimpan uang darurat dalam bentuk emas, tetapi ternak dianggap sebagai tabungan juga.

Masyarakat Aceh dari golongan miskin tidak kesulitan jika ingin menjadi peternak. Ada satu sistem perekonomian tentang peternakan yang sudah berjalan dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Sistem yang berjalan sudah sangat lama sekali, sistem peternakan yang biasa disebut dengan "Mawaih". Sistem mawaih merupakan sistem bagi hasil bidang peternakan. Ternak yang sering dijadikan pola ini biasanya hewan ruminansia, diantaranya sapi, kambing, domba dan kerbau. Namun orang lebih sering memelihara sapi untuk pola ekonomi peternakan sistem mawaih. Pola ekonomi ini menjadikan satu kerja sama antara orang kaya dengan orang miskin di Aceh.

Pemodal hanya menyediakan sejumlah uang untuk harga trrnak bakalan, baik hewan betina maupun jantan. Hewan betina biasanya untuk pembibitan dan hewan jantan untuk pedaging. Pengelola harus menyediakan kandang, merawat serta memberi pakan yang cukup supaya hewan-hewan sehat dan cukup makan. Orang yang menjadi pengurus biasanya orang yang dikenal jujur dalam komunitas pedesaan.

Dan banyak sistem telah ditinggalkan akibat pergantian sistem pemerintahan serta pengaruh sistem ekonomi asing yang bersifat kapitalis. Dahulu, hubungan orang kaya dengan orang miskin begitu akrab di Aceh dikarenakan orang kaya suka menolong dan orang miskin bersifat rajin dan jujur. Hingga terbangun sikap saling membutuhkan antara yang kaya drngan yang miskin. Namun sekarang perbedaan tersebut menjadi kesenjangan sosial bahkan sudah tinggi.
