President Jokowi Wants ASEAN-India Partnership Create Indo-Pacific Region Stability

A peaceful, stable and prosperous ecosystem must be formed in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean circles in the Indo Pacific Circle. This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo when speaking at the ASEAN - India Warning Summit India Prime Minister Retreat session with the Head of State / Head of ASEAN Government in Rasthrapati Bhawan, Thursday, January 25, 2018.

"I believe through ASEAN-lead mechanism and through the ASEAN-India partnership a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region can be achieved," said the President.

The President further said the Indo-Pacific concept can naturally be developed based on the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of ASEAN where all key countries have become parties to the treaty.

"The development of the Indo-Pacific concept, should also be carried out openly, transparently, inclusively based on the habit of dialogue; based on the desire to work together and uphold international law, "the President said.

At the beginning of his speech, the President said that last year, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN. At the same time also commemorate 25 years of ASEAN-India partnership.

"If over the past 50 years, ASEAN has succeeded in creating a peace and welfare ecosystem in Southeast Asia then the ASEAN-India partnership should also be able to contribute equally to the wider region," the President said.

Also present were President and Mrs. Iriana, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita.

Prior to joining the retreat, President and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo attended a luncheon for Heads of State / Government of ASEAN Members with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Ms. Savita Kovind who ended with a photo together.

After the retreat, President Jokowi along with other Heads of State / Head of Government of ASEAN and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi walk to Mughal Gardens to follow the photo together.

At the time of the joint photo, President Jokowi stood between the Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Prime Minister of Laos.

In the afternoon, the President will attend the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit_ ceremony and the launch of the ASEAN- India Commemorative Stamps at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave Hotel, New Delhi.

Presiden Jokowi Ingin Kemitraan ASEAN-India Ciptakan Kestabilan Kawasan Indo-Pasifik

Ekosistem damai, stabil dan sejahtera harus dapat terbentuk di lingkar Samudera Hindia dan Samudera Pasifik di Lingkar Indo Pasifik. Hal ini disampaikan Presiden Joko Widodo ketika berbicara pada KTT Peringatan ASEAN - India sesi Retreat Perdana Menteri India dengan Kepala Negara/Kepala Pemerintahan ASEAN di Rasthrapati Bhawan, Kamis 25 Januari 2018.

“Saya percaya melalui ASEAN-lead mechanism dan melalui kemitraan ASEAN-India kawasan Indo-Pasifik yang damai, stabil dan sejahtera dapat tercapai,” ucap Presiden.

Lebih lanjut Presiden mengatakan konsep Indo-Pasifik secara alami dapat dikembangkan berdasarkan Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of ASEAN dimana semua negara kunci telah menjadi para pihak dari treaty (perjanjian) tersebut.

“Pengembangan konsep Indo-Pasifik, juga harus dilakukan secara terbuka, transparan, inklusif didasarkan pada habit of dialogue; dilandasi keinginan untuk bekerja sama serta menjunjung tinggi hukum internasional,” kata Presiden.

Di awal pidatonya, Presiden mengatakan bahwa tahun lalu, kita memperingati 50 tahun berdirinya ASEAN. Pada saat yang hampir bersamaan juga memperingati 25 tahun kemitraan ASEAN-India.

“Jika selama 50 tahun, ASEAN telah berhasil menciptakan ekosistem perdamaian dan kesejahteraan di Asia Tenggara maka kemitraan ASEAN-India juga harus dapat memberikan kontribusi yang sama untuk kawasan yang lebih luas,” kata Presiden.

Turut hadir mendampingi Presiden dan Ibu Iriana, Menteri Koordinator bidang Perekonomian Darmin Nasution, Menteri Luar Negeri Retno Marsudi dan Menteri Perdagangan Enggartiasto Lukita.

Sebelum mengikuti retreat, Presiden bersama Ibu Negara Iriana Joko Widodo terlebih dahulu menghadiri jamuan makan siang untuk Kepala Negara/Pemerintahan Anggota ASEAN bersama Presiden India Ram Nath Kovind dan Ibu Savita Kovind yang diakhiri dengan foto bersama.

Setelah retreat, Presiden Jokowi bersama Kepala Negara/Kepala Pemerintahan ASEAN lainnya dan Perdana Menteri India Narendra Modi berjalan kaki menuju Mughal Gardens untuk mengikuti foto bersama.

Pada saat foto bersama, Presiden Jokowi berdiri di antara PM Kamboja dan PM Laos.

Petang harinya, Presiden akan mengikuti upacara penyambutan ASEAN – India Commemorative Summit dan peluncuran ASEAN – India Commemorative Stamps di Hotel Taj Diplomatic Enclave, New Delhi.
