History of Becak from 1930-2018 in Jakarta.

Pedicab, tricycle-powered human tricycle, then the conversation in the capital since the start of the Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan plans to run back the vehicle so prohibited for so long.
Taken from a variety of sources, trishaws began to arrive in the capital in the 1930s. Becak is free of wara-wiri until finally seen the order to curb the pedicab in the government of Ali Sadikin in the 1970s. At that time, the number of becak in the capital city has reached 100 000s.
Governor Ali prohibits the production of pedicabs and enter trishaws to Jakarta. Pedicabs are also prohibited through some protocol roads. The number of pedicabs also shrunk to a quarter, approximately 30,000.
The policy was also forwarded by the Governor Wiyogo Atmodarminto because rickshaws were accused, causing traffic congestion in Jakarta. Rickshaws are thought to be inhumane transportation models then dumped into the sea and turned into a fish habitat.
Governor Wiyogo issued the Regional Regulation no. 11/1988 concerning public order contains the idea of elimination of pedicab from Jakarta.
At the time of Governor Sutiyoso, becak was once again allowed to circulate in Jakarta through oral permission due to the economic crisis forged in 1998. However, the provision did not go long and was withdrawn in time.
In 2016, a series of pedicab drivers could make a protest action dismissed pedicab raids in the location of DKI Jakarta.
The then governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, said that the ban on rickshaw operation at the capital's location has been trimmed up in local regulations, so it can not be changed.

Beginning in January 2018, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan raises an understanding to create a special route of pedicab in Jakarta. Anies claims there are still about a thousand becak units in Jakarta even though the vehicle is banned from operating.
