2,5 Weeks on Bali - #5
Is this day ever going to end? Take 3!
Last time in Bali blog #4 we ended at Pura Besakih, the largest temple complex on Bali.
Then, on to the Klungkung Palace, officially Puri Agung Semarapura. The palace (puri) was built at the end of the 17th century. Wikipedia says it was largely destroyed during the Dutch colonial conquest in 1908. Sorry about that guys... Today the basic remains of the palace are the court of justice, the Kertha Gosa Pavilion, and the main gate that bears the date Saka 1622 (AD 1700). Within the old palace compound is also a floating pavilion, the Bale Kembang.
I really liked the atmosphere here. And, as usual, I couldn't stay on my feet O:)
After visiting this beautiful palace, we drove to the Tegenungan waterfall. This waterfall is close to Ubud, where we were still staying. So perfect as the last stop of the day.
All the stacked stones make this place look really cool.
So! On this busy day that stretches three blogs we booked a tour with a driver and we saw six amazing sights:
Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave)
Gunung Kawi
Pura Tirta Empul
Pura Besakih
Klungkung Palace
Tegenungan waterfall
After so much impressions we had enough for the day. Especially our driver was totally knackered. The traffic is really chaotic on Bali and he drove us around all day so he could use a good night's sleep.
When we got back to the B&B we had diner and got a ride to the city centre. We had a drink and played some pool before getting some well needed sleep.
If you ever get the chance to visit one of these six sights, you definitely should!
Nice that you're around for our journey across Bali :)
Hope you like it!
