The volcano "Agung" arouses panic in Indonesia

The frenetic volcano continued on Tuesday in the Indonesian island of Bali and closed the airport for a second consecutive day due to rising ash.
The volcano has disrupted flights to tens of thousands of passengers, and local authorities have renewed their call for vigilance.

The images showed Mount Agung throwing vertical clouds of white and gray ashes to nearly 3,000 meters above the summit, and the sound of the volcano eruptions could be heard 12 kilometers away.

The local airport said the 24-hour closure was due to safety reasons. Volcanic ash was an imminent threat to aircraft, especially since it reached a height of more than 9,000 meters on the island.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Disaster Reduction Agency (NDRA) raised the alert to the highest level on Monday and issued a decision to expand the evacuation point to 10 km from the volcano site.

Experts have suggested that the current volcano would continue to emit its emissions for several weeks and that massive emissions in 1963 killed 1,000 people.

Authorities have asked 100,000 people to vacate their homes near the volcano, but tens of thousands remain in their homes.

"It is not clear whether the current activity will be similar to what happened several decades ago," said Eric Clemente, an expert in volcanology at Ohio State University.

He added that it depends on what is in the depths of the volcano, and whether it will be blown up during the activity in the coming weeks.

Bali is a tourist attraction in Indonesia, attracting about five million tourists a year, benefiting from its diverse cultures and stunning landscape.
