Small creatures big potential
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) will be the top public health challenge of this century
This frog could save the world from antibiotic resistant bacteria
Bacteria are getting more and more effective at resisting treatment
And fewer and fewer antibiotics are being developed
To make matters worse ,antibiotics are overused in medicine and agriculture
So bacteria are developing immunity even faster
Some bacteria are resistant to all known antibiotics

Deaths from AMR will increase to 10 million per year by 2050 if nothing is done
And everyday treatments will become impossible
How could you perform any simple surgery if you cannot rely on antibiotics
Scientists and public health officilas worldwide are worried
And that is where Amazonizn Kampo Frog comes in
Local people in Peru and Brazil have been using tropical frogs for centuries
Using its liquids as a stimulant in hunting animals
Applying the frogs secretions to the skin makes hunters more alert and increases stamina
Scientists realized that the frogs are huge bio factories of valuable compounds
That could be a life saving source of new antibiotics
In fact over 300 antimicrobial peptides have been identified in tropical frogs
And its not just frogs…
Scientists are mapping all the DNA on the planet to unlock new ways of curing diseases
Could we leapfrog away from an AMR crisis by applying a little frog Knowledge ?
