A Very Famous Indian Burger: Dabeli

Dabeli is an amazing spicy snack made by mixing of boiled potatoes with a special Dabeli masala. Dabeli is also known as kutchi dabeli, kutchi burger,desi burger, kutchi double roti is well known traditional spicy burger bun.
The filing is made up of mashed potatoes and a spice mixed called Dabeli Masala us then, stuffed in the burger buns. It is very popular Street food in India, mainly in Gujarat. It is famous in various parts of India especially in Bilaspur, some parts of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra , Delhi, Nasik, Jabalpur.
Dabeli spice mixture can be stored for 6-12 months. Even the chutneys and Indian farsan sev. The Dabeli masala made in Kutch, Mandvi and Bhuj is sold, basically in a dry paste of assorted spices like black salt, cardamom, bay leaf, badiyan, tumeric, cumin, black pepper powder , dried red chillies, dried coconut, coriander, clove, cinnamon and many other several hot spices. It preparation time take 11-15 minutes, it is mild in taste, cooking level is moderate and cook time take 6-10 minutes.
Ingredients for making Dabeli
- Round buns or (5 pav)
- Oil (3 tablespoon)
- Dabeli masala powder -1 (1/3 tablespoon)
- Boiled potatoes and mashed (3 large)
- Salt to taste
- Lemon juice (1 teaspoon)
- Tamarind chutney and sweet date (1 cup)
- Sugar (1 tablespoon)
- Coconut scraped (1/3 cup)
- Pomegranate pearls (1/3 cup) it's totally optional.
- Spicy peanuts (1/2 cup)
- Black grapes chopped (9-10)
- Sev (1 cup)
- Fresh coriander leaves chopped (2 tablespoon)
- Butter (2 tablespoon)
- Onion chopped (1 medium size)
- Red chilli garlic chutney (1/4 cup)
Method
- Heat oil in a pan, add all boiled potatoes, salt,and a little water.
*!Mix it well and add Dabeli masala, lemon juice, half cup of tamarind chutney and sugar. - Mix and cook till the moisture is absorbed.
- Put (1/2 tsp) of red chilli garlic chutney on the lower half of the bun, (1/2 tsp) of tamarind chutney in the other half and spread well.
- Prepared potato mixture approximately (1/4 cup) on the red chilli garlic chutney side and spread well.
- Top it with 2 tablespoon of chopped onions, 1 tablespoon of spicy peanuts and 1 teaspoon of pomegranate evenly over it.
- Close the bun, pressed it lightly.
- Heat a pan put 2 teaspoon of butter and cook both sides of the Dabeli till it turns crispy.
- Roll the cooked Dabeli over sev till all the 3 sides are evenly coated.
- Serve hot with green coriander chutney.
