Reading this brought back some great memories when the first private telephone appeared at a friends house and, I agree @xyzashu, it was an event within itself to simply hear it ring. Everything and everyone stopped what they where doing and gawped at this symbol of the outside world (beyond our local village) calling us and beckoning us to pick up the receiver and connect!
