लिंग में समानता-

जिस प्रकार समस्त देवताओं का एक मात्र रूप शिवलिंग है, वैसे ही
समस्त वेदों का बीज ॐ कार ही है।
ओम कार की महिमा स्वरूप जो वेदादि शास्त्रों में
लिखी है, वह सब शिवलिंग में पूर्णतया घटित होती

छान्दोग्यानुसार- >ॐ एक अक्षर गान व उपासना करने योग्य है।

यजुर्वेदानुसार- ॐ के ही समस्त चराचर ब्रह्म है ।

गीता के अनुसार- ॐ यह एक अक्षर साक्षात ब्रह्म हैं।

माण्डुक्यानुसार- ॐ यह एक अक्षर सर्वस्व है और इसी एक अक्षर की व्याख्या समस्त वेद है।

कठोपनिषदानुसार-सब वेद जिस उच्च पद का वर्णन करते हैं, समस्त तप किये जाते हैं, व्रत धारण करते है । वह पद ही ॐ कार है।

शिवपुराणानुसार- सब कामना का सिद्धिदाता जो ॐ कार है वही प्रथम लिंग है इन सब से स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि ब्रह्मा का साक्षात चिन्ह जोॐ कार है वही साक्षात् शिवलिंग है।

सृष्टि के आरम्भ में निराकार ब्रह्म, साकार रूप
में परिणित होता हुआ सर्वप्रथम गोल अण्डाकार ब्रह्मा
के रूप में प्रकट हुआ। वही गोल अण्डाकार अथवा शिवलिंग नाम से ब्रह्म का संकेत नियम हुआ ।
अत : अनादिकाल से ब्रह्मउपासक आस्तिक लोगों का ॐ पूज्य चिन्ह है।
